Job summary

US Tech Solutions in Redmond, WA is seeking a Linguist for a 6-month contract to help shape data-driven ASR/TTS improvements. The role focuses on linguistic evaluation, data needs, and strategic vision for data-based models.

You will work on phonetics, phonology, transcription quality, and related NLP tasks, with a requirement of strong SQL/Python skills, a linguistics degree, and at least 5 years experience. The pay is $50-$70 per hour.

Qualifications

• BA/MA/PhD in linguistics with applied linguistics focus
• Proven SQL and Python proficiency
• Ability to produce clear guidelines and docs
• Knowledge of phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, dialectology
• Ability to analyze waveforms and spectrograms
• Experience with transcription systems (SAMPA, IPA, ToBI)
• Excellent verbal and written communication

Responsibilities

• Provide linguistic expertise in phonetics, phonology, lexicography, dialectology, and NLP
• Design and conduct experiments for evaluating transcription quality
• Develop manual and automated processes for multiple concurrent projects including ensuring high-quality label alignments, prosodic classification, POS identification and disambiguation, targeted modeling data, and user feedback
• Create and perfect text normalization and inverse text normalization processes
• Manage lexical and phrasal transcriptions and related metadata
• Analyze system metrics such as user opinion, lexicon transcription coverage, and POS tagger performance and remedy pain points
