Job summary

The City of Fairfield seeks a Senior Lifeguard to maintain constant watch at the Allan Witt Park Aquatics Complex, enforce regulations, assist swimmers in distress, and provide emergency first aid. Lead lifeguards on duty and deliver excellent customer service as a core department goal.

This part-time, year-round, non-benefited position is limited to 1,000 hours per fiscal year, with varied scheduling including weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older or possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one full season equivalent to Lifeguard II duties with the City of Fairfield (240 hours defined)

Responsibilities

• Conduct continuous surveillance of pool area for swimmers in trouble and for violations of pool and safety regulations.
• Monitor activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and enforce rules and policies.
• Respond quickly to emergencies in the water or surrounding areas and provide first aid as lead in emergency procedures.
• Maintain a safe environment and take steps to prevent hazards.
• Provide courteous, professional service to participants, facility users and staff; address concerns and offer solutions.
• Lead and monitor lower level workers in daily scheduling, coverage zones and lifeguard rotation.
