Job summary

KBR's Science and Space Division seeks a Senior Lidar Systems & Geospatial Engineering Lead to guide lidar system characterization, quality assurance, and accuracy assessment for the ECCOE project supporting USGS 3DEP capabilities.

The role blends lidar subject-matter expertise with algorithm and software development, standards support, and technical leadership to create scalable methods for evaluating point-cloud quality, density, and elevation accuracy.

Qualifications

MS in physics, mathematics, remote sensing, geospatial science, geomatics, environmental science, or related field; PhD preferred.
8+ years of progressive, lidar-related experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security credential.

Responsibilities

Lead technical QA/QC and characterization of airborne lidar datasets against requirements.
Develop methods for evaluating point density, spatial distribution, and completeness.
Perform vertical accuracy assessments using GNSS, TLS, and other reference datasets.
Investigate lidar anomalies to identify acquisition, calibration, processing, or product issues.
Develop scalable Python-based tools for processing tens of millions of points per tile.
Design automated QA/QC workflows and project-level reports.
