Northern Trust Corp is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel—Litigation, Investigations & Regulatory Enforcement in Chicago. The role demands a J.D. and Illinois bar admission with at least 5 years in regulated corporate litigation.

You will lead complex discovery, manage investigations, and advise on litigation strategy while coordinating with internal partners and outside counsel. The position is hybrid, with in-office and remote work, and requires collaboration across Risk/Compliance, Tax and Legal

Qualifications

• Must possess a J.D. degree from an accredited law school and a valid license to practice law in Illinois.
• Minimum of 5 years in a full-time business litigation practice with experience advising clients in highly regulated industries.
• Experience leading witnesses and supervising complex discovery in business litigation.
• Familiarity with legal holds, document management tools, and secure electronic document sharing.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support all aspects of pending and threatened litigation, investigations, and regulatory enforcement matters.
• Develop strategy in consultation with senior internal counsel and coordinate with partners and outside counsel.
• Oversee internal discovery efforts and coordinate with the e-discovery team on documents, identification, collection, and production.
• Draft and implement legal holds; prepare witnesses for deposition and trial; supervise outside counsel as needed.
• Interact with internal stakeholders and regulators; prepare for regulatory inquiries and responses; support reporting and tracking requirements.
