Job summary

GiveDirectly is seeking a Senior Counsel to lead the Emergency Cash legal model and to serve as the primary legal partner for U.S. programs.

The role requires navigating regulatory, contracting, and data-use issues while delivering timely guidance for fast-moving emergency responses. The position is remote, overlaps with East Africa time, and offers compensation aligned to market benchmarks with a target bonus.

Qualifications

• Experience advising on complex regulatory matters across programs and partners.
• Strong drafting skills for agreements, consent, data-sharing, and vendor contracts.
• Ability to translate legal requirements into practical guidance for non-lawyers.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the legal partner to Emergency Cash across strategy, design, launch and delivery.
• Lead the legal work during active emergencies with clear recommendations under pressure.
• Draft and negotiate partnerships, technology, and data-sharing agreements for emergency programs.
• Coordinate with country teams and external counsel to maintain legal ownership of responses.
