The Opportunity

Breakwater advises leading public companies, private corporations, brands, coalitions, and nonprofit institutions on some of their most important strategic and reputational challenges. Our Investor practice brings a distinctive perspective to that work combining disciplined research, nuanced stakeholder understanding, and strategic counsel tailored to market-facing realities.

This role is for a trusted advisor with deep experience across strategy, capital markets, valuation, and investor communications. You will work closely with CEOs, CFOs, Investor Relations leaders, and boards to shape the strategic narrative, define the investment thesis, and develop Investor Days that are highly differentiated, and build, defend and strengthen valuation.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will bring the judgment to challenge senior management teams, the financial fluency to engage sophisticated market audiences, and the presence to operate effectively at the highest levels of leadership. In addition to leading clients through some of their most valuation defining moments in the market, you will help build a premium, distinctive offering with clear intellectual and commercial relevance with clear linkages to Intrinsic, our market leading investor intelligence solution.

Responsibilities
  • Build out and scale a leading Investor Day Practice, including proposition development, market positioning, thought leadership, business development, and go-to-market strategy
  • Serve as a senior advisor to CEOs, CFOs, Investor Relations leaders, and boards on the strategic objectives, narrative, and positioning of Investor Days
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of Investor Day engagements, from initial framing and storyline development through preparation, execution, and post-event assessment
  • Help clients translate strategy, portfolio choices, operating priorities, and financial ambition into clear, credible, investor-relevant messages
  • Develop recommendations grounded in financial analysis, investor insight, sector context, valuation considerations, and market expectations
  • Design Investor Day agendas and content strategies, ensuring coherence across themes, sequencing, speakers, materials, and anticipated investor questions
  • Draft and review core investor-facing materials, including presentations, executive scripts, Q&A documents, messaging frameworks, and briefing materials
  • Prepare senior management teams for investor and analyst engagement, including presentation coaching, message refinement, and pressure-testing of likely areas of challenge
  • Leverage investor intelligence and market feedback to refine positioning, strengthen credibility, and improve the effectiveness of the external narrative
  • Build a differentiated thought leadership platform around Investor Days that strengthens the practice’s profile and supports business development
  • Work closely with colleagues to bring an integrated approach to client delivery
  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and distinctive client service, with a strong focus on quality, judgment, and impact
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in investor relations, equity advisory, investment banking, financial communications, management consulting, or related fields
  • Significant experience advising on Investor Days / Capital Markets Days or other high-profile investor-facing moments
  • Exceptional understanding of how strategy, execution, and communication shape investor perception, valuation, and long-term value creation
  • Strong financial acumen, including capital markets, valuation, financial performance, disclosure expectations, and investor priorities
  • Outstanding ability to synthesize complexity into clear, compelling strategic and financial messages
  • Excellent judgment in shaping executive-level communications and a strong instinct for what will resonate with investors and analysts
  • Executive presence and the credibility to advise and influence CEOs, CFOs, boards, and Investor Relations leaders
  • Superior client relationship-building and management skills
  • Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional workstreams with rigor, pace, and attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, CFA, or equivalent advanced training preferred
