Barry-Wehmiller's BW Converting division is seeking a Senior Leader – Electrical & Software Engineering to direct the Electrical and Software Engineering teams supporting the Vision product lines.

This role partners with engineering leadership to allocate resources for strategic product development and collaborates with leaders across the organization to ensure alignment with the business strategy and successful execution.

Job Description:

The Senior Leader – Electrical & Software Engineering is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the activities of the Electrical and Software Engineering teams supporting BWCS’s Vision product lines. This role partners closely with engineering leadership to ensure resources are effectively allocated to support BWCS’s strategic product development initiatives. The position requires strong cross-functional collaboration with leaders across the organization to drive alignment with overall business strategy and ensure successful execution.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard engineering staff.
• Train and develop staff.
• Manage team workload, priorities, and engineering backlogs.
• Provide timely, constructive performance evaluations.
• Develop and train team-members to ensure compliance with BW policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Partner with Product Management and Project Management to prioritize work and allocate engineering resources to meet project timelines.
• Monitor engineering team capacity and optimize time allocation, with a focus on advancing New Product Development initiatives.
• Support Project Managers by contributing to cost analysis, resource planning, and development schedules.
• Ensure alignment of team activities to meet or exceed monthly financial and operational commitments.
• Oversee project execution to ensure delivery within budget and in a cost-effective manner.
• Lead Design Reviews.
• Define and implement the strategic direction of engineering initiatives in alignment with business objectives.
• Assess team strengths and development areas; establish and execute improvement plans as needed.
• Mentor and develop early-career engineers while fostering a collaborative, high-performance team culture.
• Provide technical expertise and support to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Evaluate, recommend, and implement new technologies, tools, and systems to improve efficiency and decision-making.
• Support engagement with design partners and vendors critical to product roadmap execution, technology development, obsolescence management, and order fulfillment.
• Establish and maintain engineering policies, standards, security practices, and development processes to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
• Partner with cross-functional teams—including manufacturing, supply chain, and field service—to support overall organizational success and customer satisfaction.
• Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Deep knowledge of electrical and software engineering principles and practices.
• Software knowledge including C, C++, C#, embedded, Windows, Linux, Git/Github Vision processing experience including OpenCV, TensorFlow, YOLO.
• Lead multi-developer software projects leveraging AI-assisted software development.
• Experience with PCB design, layout, and test; Altium preferred.
• Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
• Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
• Continuous learning mindset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar tools.
