Job summary

Lumen Technologies, a leader in AI-ready connectivity, is hiring a Senior Lead Security Engineer to hunt threats, investigate at scale, and develop automated detection across large networks. You will work with advanced security researchers, data engineers, and customers to tackle evolving threats using a cutting-edge Hadoop/Spark and AI-enabled environment.

The role requires active TS/SCI clearance w/ CI Poly, remote/hybrid collaboration, and occasional travel to Annapolis Junction, MD.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in cyber threat hunting and threat intelligence gathering.
• Strong Python scripting and automation capabilities.
• Experience with OSINT methods for investigation and threat discovery.
• Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments and SQL querying.
• Experience using AI-assisted coding and analysis tools.
• Knowledge of network-based threats and threat actor TTPs.
• Ability to analyze large data sets and develop detection algorithms.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with distributed computing frameworks like Spark.
• Ability to validate AI-generated outputs and maintain analytical rigor.

Responsibilities

• Research threat attacker tools, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to automate detection.
• Conduct in-depth investigations on cyber threat activity and provide mitigation guidance.
• Automate investigations using Python and data analysis with Jupyter Notebooks and Grafana.
• Build and maintain trust with intelligence teams and external partners.
• Support customer RFIs on incidents and emerging threats.
• Leverage AI-enabled tools to accelerate research while ensuring analytical accuracy.
• Develop repeatable automation workflows combining analyst expertise and AI-assisted capabilities.
