Overview
Salesforce is seeking experienced backend engineers to contribute across the Super Agent and Integration & Platform teams within Agentforce Operations. The role involves owning hard, cross-cutting system problems, setting technical direction, and driving foundational investments to scale Agentforce Operations. The team focuses on AI-powered design, automation, and end-to-end business processes with emphasis on reliability, observability, and enterprise-scale implementation.
About Salesforce: Salesforce is the #1 AI CRM, driving customer success with a focus on trust, innovation, and core values. Agentforce is positioned to transform supply chain workflows with AI-powered capabilities that connect back-office and front-office processes.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing
- Work as a Senior, Lead, or Principal Engineer across the Super Agent and Integration & Platform teams to own the most challenging cross-cutting system problems and set technical direction.
- Participate in architectural decomposition, cross-team interface design, and hands-on work when needed to address complex issues.
- Improve system health, risk visibility, and investment decisions through observability and engineering excellence.
- Raise the engineering quality bar by enforcing pragmatic standards, guardrails, and sustainable practices.
Responsibilities by Team
- Super Agent: Diagnose and prioritize foundational investments, decompose architectures, design interfaces, and contribute to high-impact backend work.
- Integration & Platform: Architect and implement integrations with Salesforce ecosystem products (Mulesoft, Flow); design scalable data export pipelines; optimize ETL for daily data synchronization with Data Cloud; build robust APIs and webhooks.
- Shared Responsibilities: Deliver high-quality, scalable code; drive technical decisions as a primary contributor; mentor engineers; collaborate with Product Management; design systems where AI agents integrate with human workflows; maintain system context and ensure security, performance, and reliability.
- Long-Term Strategic Impact: Set standards for data integration and backend architecture; mitigate architectural risks; drive continuous performance and observability improvements.
Qualifications
- 3+ years (Senior), 5+ years (Lead), 8+ years (Principal) of backend engineering experience building large-scale web applications and data systems.
- Related technical degree required.
- Deep expertise in data modeling, database performance, state management, API design, transactions, concurrency, fault tolerance, and scaling.
- Experience designing and maintaining production-grade data pipelines (ETL/ELT) and external REST APIs/webhooks.
- Proficient in at least one modern language (e.g., Java, Python, Go) suitable for platform development.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, high availability architectures, event queues, and asynchronous processing.
- Strong ability to diagnose architectural problems, prioritize investments, and drive measurable improvements.
- Experience designing interfaces between teams and systems; prior lead technical role and ownership of complex projects as an individual contributor.
- Excellent communication and ability to lead technical discussions; collaboration with Product Management and engineering teams to shape requirements.
- Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and AI-first approach to engineering; experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Cursor) in development workflows.
- Advanced prompt engineering skills and ability to craft structured prompts to produce reliable, secure, production-ready AI outputs.
Desirable (Even Better If)
- B.S. in Computer Science (M.S. preferred).
- Mastery of Golang, GraphQL, and PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce integration technologies (Mulesoft, Salesforce Data Cloud).
- Experience with large-scale event streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis).
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration.
- GraphQL API design experience and workflow engines.
- Exposure to supply chain, logistics, or manufacturing domains.
- Experience balancing early-stage ambiguity with scaling, reliability, and maintainability in rapidly evolving systems.
- Notable open-source contributions, patents, or published research; familiarity with Salesforce platform.
