Full Time Senior Lead Fine Art Technician
Description

The Senior Lead Fine Art Technician acts as lead art handler, working with and supervising art handlers in the field while providing a high level of service to our clients. Candidates must be highly motivated, detail-oriented team players with prior experience at a museum, gallery, or other art handling company.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • All paperwork when on site, including all condition reporting for artworks
  • Ensuring that the vehicle used is always safe, clean, and prepared for the day
  • Maintaining stock for commonly used materials and verifying stock for specialty items as required
  • Training less-experienced art handlers
  • Working closely with Project Managers to create installation plans and estimates
  • Assisting with special projects, including fabrication of custom hardware, panels, and woodshop support

If there are no installs on scheduled workdays, in-house shop projects will be assigned.

Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Comfortable driving a variety of cargo vans and trucks
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds as part of daily activity
  • Ability to work extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling, and crouching
  • Ability to move, push, pull equipment, containers, and boxes of various sizes and weights
  • Occasional flexibility in hours as jobs require
  • Occasional travel to regional locations for onsite work (generally less than once per quarter)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients (in person, by phone, and by email)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, database management, and general computer literacy for managing files
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of best practices for handling and packing 2-D and 3-D objects, including slat crates, travel frames, cavity packs, and standard crating techniques
  • Ability to select proper archival and other packing materials depending upon the medium, surfaces, condition, and fragility of a particular work
  • Know how to properly wrap, load, and strap artworks within a truck to keep them safe in transport
  • Familiarity with light rigging and lifts in the installation of artwork
  • Familiarity with professional art hanging hardware (security hardware, cleats, hanging systems, etc.) and installation practices appropriate to varied wall and ceiling materials
  • Experience anticipating challenges based on presented scope and guiding a team through dynamic projects
  • Experience with the safe operation of woodshop equipment such as table saws, miter saws, drill presses, and orbital sanders
Pay and Benefits

The salary for this position ranges from $33.00 - $38/hour with a starting range of $33.00 - $36.00.
This is an hourly position, 5 days a week, Monday – Friday. There will be occasional evening and installations outside the greater Seattle area which would require overnight stays.

Holiday leave: Vacation is 80 hours per year for your first two years of employment, based on 40 hours a week. Vacation accrual will increase at a rate of 8 hours per year every year thereafter and until a maximum accrual of 160 hour per year is achieved.

Six additional paid holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas

Paid Sick and Safe Time (PSST) per Seattle ordinance:You will accrue sick time at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.

Health benefits: Allison & Ross offers 80% of the premium for a basic “bronze” health coverage plan and dental for employees working at least 30 hours weekly, averaged over the course of the year. Vision insurance will be offered beginning in March when the plan is renewed. You will be responsible for the full cost of the premium for any dependents you wish to add to your coverage. You will also have the option of selecting one of five plans from the same insurance provider and paying the difference between the cost of the basic plan and the plan of your choosing. Eligibility begins on the first day of the month that comes after 30 days of employment.
