Job description

What part will you play? If you’re looking for a place where you can make a meaningful difference, you’ve found it.

The work we do at Markel gives people the confidence to move forward and seize opportunities, and you’ll find your fit amongst our global community of optimists and problem-solvers. We’re always pushing each other to go further because we believe that when we realize our potential, we can help others reach theirs. Join us and play your part in something special! The Senior/Lead Business Analyst, Oracle EPM & Reporting supports Markel’s Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) applications — primarily Financial Consolidation and Close (FCCS), Account Reconciliation (ARCS), and Profitability and Cost Management (PCM) — as well as Finance’s broader enterprise reporting capabilities delivered through Oracle Financial Data Integration (FDI) and Power BI over the Financial Data Repository (FDR). Reporting to the Manager, Oracle EPM & Reporting, this role partners closely with IT, the Oracle R2R Product Owner, and Finance stakeholders to support the day-to-day operation, enhancement, and continuous improvement of the close, reconciliation, and reporting landscape.

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as a liaison between Finance teams and the IT functional team, gathering, documenting, and translating business requirements for FCCS, ARCS, PCM, and reporting initiatives and enhancements.
  • Develop subject matter expertise across the Oracle EPM suite, with a specific focus on FCCS, ARCS, and PCM, and maintain a working understanding of how these applications integrate with upstream and downstream financial systems.
  • Support the reporting layer connecting Oracle EPM and ERP applications to downstream reporting via Oracle Financial Data Integration (FDI), helping ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data flows.
  • Contribute to the enhancement and expansion of Power BI dashboards and reporting capabilities to improve visibility, insight, and decision-making for Finance stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and support end-to-end testing efforts for FCCS, ARCS, PCM, and reporting changes, including defining test scenarios, tracking timelines across stakeholder groups, and driving issues to closure.
  • Act as a point of contact for production issues across FCCS, ARCS, PCM, and reporting tools, triaging, troubleshooting, and coordinating resolution with the appropriate technical teams.
  • Identify and support opportunities to enhance close, reconciliation, and reporting processes through automation, leveraging Oracle’s native capabilities within the EPM suite (e.g., intelligent matching in Account Reconciliation, automation and AI features within FCCS and Narrative Reporting, and allocation automation within Profitability and Cost Management).
  • Stay current on emerging Oracle AI and automation capabilities across the EPM and reporting landscape and help assess their applicability to Finance processes.
  • Serve as a representative on EPM- and reporting-related meetings and initiatives, building effective relationships with key stakeholders across Finance and IT.
  • Support the development of best practice guidance, conduct training, and partner with the Finance team on enhanced use of Oracle EPM and reporting tools.
  • Ensure all key process controls and appropriate governance documentation are in place and kept up to date for FCCS, ARCS, PCM, FDI, and reporting-related processes.
  • Support responses to external audit queries and coordinate the delivery of supporting information requests.
  • Proactively identify process gaps and inefficiencies and contribute recommendations for improvement.
