Job summary

Lumen is leading AI-enabled connectivity in the U.S. This Senior Lead Applied AI Scientist role designs, builds, and deploys production‑scale AI solutions, partnering with business, product, engineering, and technology leaders to turn high‑value opportunities into measurable outcomes.

You’ll combine deep AI expertise with software engineering, experimentation, and product delivery skills, prototyping and scaling systems while guiding stakeholders through tradeoffs.

Qualifications

• Seven plus years of experience in applied AI, machine learning, or data science with production deployments.
• Proven track record delivering AI solutions that yield measurable business outcomes.
• Deep expertise in ML, statistics, experimentation, and modern AI techniques.
• Hands-on experience building LLM, RAG, agentic, and ML solutions.
• Strong AI evaluation, model performance optimization, responsible AI, and monitoring.
• Proficiency in Python and modern AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace, MLflow).
• Experience with MLOps, LLMOps, cloud AI platforms, APIs, and engineering best practices.
• Strong product mindset and ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and business audiences.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and optimize AI solutions from concept to production.
• Partner with business and product teams to identify opportunities and validate value via rapid experiments.
• Develop advanced AI systems using ML, generative AI, retrieval, and agentic architectures.
• Define evaluation frameworks and continuously improve quality, reliability, safety, performance, and cost.
• Collaborate with Engineering to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions using MLOps/LLMOps.
• Contribute reusable frameworks, assets, and standards to accelerate AI adoption.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance on complex AI initiatives.
