Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks expert lathe machinists for Prototype Fabrication. Machinist Level 4 or 5 roles involve manufacturing complex parts from drawings/CAD models with tight tolerances using CNC mills, lathes, and wire EDM.

Level 5 adds mentorship, expert CAD/CAM work, and advanced GD&T to ASME Y14.5 standards. Work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Advanced setup and operation of CNC lathes to high precision.
• Advanced shop math for machining processes.
• Development of machining processes, fixturing and tooling design.
• Precision measurement using inspection equipment.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate parts by programming, setting up, and operating manual and CNC mills, lathes, and wire EDM.
• Interpret complex drawings, sketches, and CAD models to manufacture parts.
• Work in teams in classified and unclassified areas to support internal/external customers.
• Level 5: mentor colleagues and lower-level machinists; apply CAD/CAM with Solidworks/MasterCam and GD&T.
