Job summary

Coherent Aerospace & Defense Inc in Bloomfield, Connecticut is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer for Defense. You will support design and development of high-power fiber laser products, transitioning concepts from R&D to production, and leading cross-functional teams on product growth initiatives.

Ideal candidates combine laser physics, programming, and electronics with strong data analysis and modeling skills, including experience with Zemax, MATLAB, Python, and embedded C. U.S.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree preferred; MS with 10+ years in Physics, Lasers, or related field considered.
• 5+ years in an R&D environment, with hands-on fabrication/test of high power fiber lasers.
• Experience with nonlinear effects in fiber amplifiers is preferred.
• Experience with data analysis and numerical modelling tools like MATLAB, Python, or similar is preferred.
• Working knowledge of electronics and embedded systems; C and Visual Studio is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Interface with technical customers and product team to understand needs.
• Develop new product concepts to advance technology and roadmap.
• Lead cross-functional teams to transition prototypes to production.
• Provide root-cause failure analysis for prototype units.
• Assist with technical proposals, IP development, and publications.
