Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Senior Laboratory Assistant to oversee the division's daily operations and blood collection activities. You will supervise staff, train personnel, assess competency, and handle essential clinical duties including phlebotomy and specimen management.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least five years of related experience, with preferred phlebotomy certification options and a Texas driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five (5) years related experience.
• Preferred: Certified Phlebotomist (ASCP/ACA/AMT/NCCT/NHA).
• Valid State of Texas Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily operations of the division and blood collection activities.
• Supervises personnel, provides training, assesses competency, and completes evaluations.
• Performs phlebotomy or other clinical duties as assigned.
• Manages patient registration, specimen management, and data entry.
• Ensures sample quality and laboratory safety procedures.
• Maintains supply inventory and equipment maintenance records.
• Communicates with staff, management, and medical directors.
