Adyen is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to help design and deliver foundational services used by engineering teams across the platform. You will lead cross-team initiatives, evolve APIs, and own deployment, observability, and live operations in a production environment.

Based in Amsterdam, this role focuses on secure, scalable, multi-data-center solutions and collaboration with product managers to identify shared needs and drive adoption of platform services.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend software development experience.
• Proficiency in Java and a strong understanding of the JVM.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Experience with CI/CD, observability, performance analysis, and incident response.
• Ability to lead ambiguous technical initiatives involving multiple teams.
• Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems.
• A product-oriented approach to software development.
• Willingness to operate, deploy, and troubleshoot applications in a live production environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of foundational services used by engineering teams across Adyen.
• Drive complex, cross-team initiatives from problem discovery through production adoption.
• Partner with product managers and engineers to identify shared platform needs and define priorities.
• Design and evolve APIs, including compatibility, migration, and adoption strategies.
• Architect resilient solutions spanning multiple data centers.
• Own the deployment, observability, operation, and continuous improvement of live services.
• Gather and use developer feedback to improve the reliability, usability, and adoption of platform services.
• Mentor engineers and raise technical standards within the team.
