Job summary

Optum is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain core Java-based applications, while optimizing enterprise build engineering and automation pipelines. You will leverage automated workflows, build tools, and AI capabilities to streamline development and deliver high-performance software features.

As a senior engineer, you will mentor peers, participate in Agile/Scrum sprints, review code, and ensure build quality gates across cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of software development experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on Java development experience.
• 3+ years of experience with Relational Databases and SQL.
• 1+ years of experience with GitHub Actions and automated build pipelines.
• 1+ years of experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and dependency management best practices in enterprise Java projects.

Responsibilities

• Contribute as a hands-on software engineer designing, building, testing, and maintaining core Java-based applications.
• Design, optimize, and maintain automated build pipelines and workflows utilizing Gradle and GitHub Actions.
• Manage dependency resolution, artifact management (Artifactory), and build execution performance across Java codebases.
• Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows and drive continuous improvement.
• Evaluate trends in build engineering, CI, and AI-assisted tooling for solution design.
• Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions and reusable components for complex business challenges.
• Perform code reviews, enforce build quality gates, and mentor engineers across teams.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum to deliver high-quality releases every 2 weeks.
