Job summary

Miller Johnson seeks a mid-level to senior Intellectual Property Litigation Associate with 4–6 years of experience to join our IP Litigation Practice Group in Chicago. The role involves significant responsibility for sophisticated IP disputes, case strategy, client service, and day-to-day management of complex matters.

The ideal candidate will handle patent litigation and other IP issues, independently manage substantial components of cases, and collaborate with attorneys, clients, and experts.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years of substantive litigation experience involving complex IP disputes.
• Admission to the Illinois State Bar or eligibility to waive into Illinois.
• Strong legal writing, analytical, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to independently manage significant components of complex litigation matters.

Responsibilities

• Develop legal and technical arguments and draft motions, briefs, pleadings, and other materials with limited supervision.
• Lead significant discovery aspects, including strategy, written discovery, and related motions.
• Prepare for and handle depositions, including outline development and witness prep.
• Evaluate claims/defenses, identify risks, and recommend strategic actions.
• Independently manage substantial case workstreams and coordinate deadlines and teams.
• Apply patent and IP law knowledge to case strategy and written advocacy.
• Collaborate with experts to shape theories and supporting materials.
• Communicate directly with clients, experts, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders.
