30+ days ago Requisition ID: 1090

Senior iOS Software Engineer

At Modular Medical, we are dedicated to transforming diabetes care through innovative technology. With our first insulin pump now released and beginning to reach patients, we are committed to providing reliable and user-friendly solutions. We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior iOS Software Engineer to help carry our next-generation mobile application across the finish line and to lead its ongoing development as our product line grows. If you're passionate about driving innovation and making a meaningful impact in healthcare, we'd love to connect with you.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Complete development of our next-generation iOS application, currently in the late stages of development, and take ownership of it through release and beyond.
  • Design and develop new features that expand what patients and caregivers can do with our insulin pump devices.
  • Maintain and support our legacy iOS application as patients transition to the new app.
  • Contribute to shared core components that will also support a future Android application, with an emphasis on correctness, safety, and testability.
  • Collaborate with engineers, managers, and UX/UI designers to create seamless and intuitive mobile applications.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and high-quality code with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and user experience.
  • Ensure our iOS applications comply with medical device standards, regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO), and data security protocols.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize the performance of applications running on various iOS devices.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from initial planning through release and ongoing maintenance.
  • Stay up to date with the latest iOS development trends, medical device regulations, and best practices in mobile health applications.
  • Collaborate in code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to industry standards.
  • Develop features that enhance user experience, such as real-time data display, alerts, and intuitive user interfaces for diabetes management.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as an iOS developer with at least 4 years of experience in building and shipping iOS applications, ideally in the healthcare or medical device sector.
  • Strong proficiency in Swift, including familiarity with the current version of the language, and experience with common iOS frameworks (UIKit, CoreData, CoreBluetooth, etc.).
  • Experience with Swift language patterns such as actors, async/await, closures, protocols, generics, strict concurrency, and other advanced language features to write clean and efficient code.
  • Solid experience with SwiftUI for building modern, responsive user interfaces.
  • Experience with common mobile application architecture patterns.
  • Knowledge of Apple's design guidelines, human interface standards, and accessibility principles.
  • Strong understanding of security practices related to mobile app development, preferably in the context of healthcare (e.g., HIPAA, data encryption).
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs to connect iOS applications with backend systems.
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks (XCTest, Swift Testing) and experience with unit and integration testing for mobile apps.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a cross-functional team and communicate complex technical ideas clearly.
  • Comfortable working on both a modern codebase and an older one, and able to judge when to improve legacy code and when to leave it alone.
  • Passion for healthcare technology and improving patient outcomes through innovation.
Preferred
  • Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or wearable technology integration.
  • Interest in working with the Swift SDK for Android. Our shared code is intended to support a future Android app, and any familiarity with Android development or with sharing Swift code across platforms is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations and medical device software compliance.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Background in Agile or Scrum development methodologies.
  • Familiar with SwiftData for data management and integration in iOS applications.
