Job summary

Empower is seeking a Senior Investment Analyst to oversee U.S. statutory and GAAP financial reporting for the Insurance Company and its affiliates. The role requires strong accounting knowledge and the ability to apply pronouncements to investment portfolios.

You will lead quarterly/annual reporting, coordinate investment disclosures, and research new reporting requirements while driving process improvements and system enhancements across internal and external reporting efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
  • 4–6 years of financial reporting experience are required.
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Understanding of reporting systems such as Blackline, EASY, SAP, PAM, Phoenix.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review quarterly/annual statutory NAIC reporting and annual audited statements.
  • Coordinate investment presentation in financial statements quarterly.
  • Research disclosures and respond to new pronouncements and guidelines.
  • Interpret NAIC/GAAP pronouncements and regulations for reporting.
  • Suggest changes to accounting systems and presentation.

Job Description

The Senior Investment Analyst is responsible for overseeing and reviewing U.S. Statutory (NAIC - National Association of Insurance Commissioners) and U.S. GAAP, regulatory, tax and/or Board financial reporting for separate accounts of the Insurance Company, subsidiaries and affiliates. This role requites a thorough understanding of accounting pronouncements and appropriate application to the investment portfolio.

What you will do:
  • Responsible for the preparation and review of the quarterly/annual statutory NAIC state financial reporting, supplements, annual audited financial statements and surveys.
  • Coordinate investment presentation in the financial statements on a quarterly basis.
  • Research and propose new disclosures and modifications to reports in response to new pronouncements, guidelines and investment types.
  • Interpret new pronouncements and guidelines issued by authoritative associations in relation to U.S. Statutory, U.S. GAAP, or various regulations.
  • Recommend appropriate changes to accounting systems and presentation of information.
  • Research and determine document process improvements and system enhancements to increase overall effectiveness and efficiency to support internal and external reporting initiatives.
  • Assist with new process and project implementation.
  • Responsible for coordinating audits for Investments and explaining Company's position.
  • Responsible for monitoring the reporting database and making adjustments where necessary.
  • Respond to ad-hoc reporting requests requiring interpretation of requests, professional formatting and explanation of results.
  • Reconcile and research ledger balances for accuracy between multiple systems.
  • Preparation of U.S. GAAP Annual Registered Financial Statements
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • 4-6 years of financial reporting experience required
  • Advanced MS Office Skills (Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
  • Understanding of various reporting systems (Blackline, EASY, SAP, PAM, Phoenix, Unit Value Cloud)
What will set you apart:
  • Public accounting or investment related financial reporting experience
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Statutory (NAIC) and/or GAAP accounting principles
  • Previous experience in investments strongly preferred
  • Strong technical and analytical skills with ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to utilize creativity thinking towards improvement of business processes and internal controls, and follow-thru in all stages from design into implementation
  • Attention to detail, analytical acumen and excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple and competing priorities
  • Self-driven with ability to deal with ambiguity, a willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities
  • Proficient in MS Office, including advanced Excel skills
  • Process improvement mindset
  • Experience using Alteryx and Wings annual statement software a plus
  • Familiarity with Workiva reporting system and WDesk

Base Salary Range

$79,400.00 - $112,175.00

The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
