SpectrumCareers is partnering with a respected education organization in Washington DC to hire a Senior Internal Auditor. This role sits within the Internal Audit function and reports to the Director of Internal Audit.

You’ll lead risk-based audits across financial, operational, and compliance areas, and advise leadership on controls and process improvement. You’ll plan and execute audits under IIA Standards, support the risk assessment, evaluate controls over tuition, grants, procurement,

Qualifikationen

• 5–7 years of internal or external audit or risk advisory experience.
• CIA or CPA preferred; CISA, CFE, or CGAP a plus.
• Experience in education, nonprofit, government, or other highly regulated environments preferred.
• Working knowledge of COSO, IIA Standards, and federal grant compliance.
• Strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate findings to senior leadership.
• Proficiency in Excel. Experience with data analytics or audit management tools is a plus.

Aufgaben

• Plan, execute, and report on risk-based financial, operational, compliance, and IT-related audits under IIA Standards.
• Support the annual risk assessment and audit plan, including identifying emerging risks unique to the education sector.
• Evaluate internal controls over areas such as tuition and revenue, financial aid, grants and sponsored programs, procurement, payroll, and auxiliary operations.
• Assess compliance with federal and state requirements, including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), Title IV, FERPA, and institutional policies.
• Draft clear, actionable audit reports, and present findings and recommendations to management and the Audit Committee.
• Track management action plans and perform follow-up testing to confirm remediation.
• Lead special projects and investigations, including reviews of fraud allegations and ethics hotline matters.
• Mentor staff auditors and review their workpapers.
• Partner with departments across campus or the organization as a trusted advisor on risk and controls.
