The Senior Interior designer creates functional and aesthetic designs that enhance interior environments and is responsible for the successful management of projects from start to finish, including client interaction, conceptual design, schematic, design development, construction documentation and construction services. You are responsible for working with clients, developing relationships, design development, leading consultants, and internal team, overseeing the development of contract documents, adhering to budgets, facilitating contracts, construction site representation and project closeout.

The Senior Interior Designer is responsible for design in all phases of a project and demonstrates a master level knowledge of the interior design process from programming through construction administration. S/he/they also lead the interior design team on projects of any size or complexity, in addition to delegating to and supervising the work of others. S/he/they must have professional communication, presentation, and client management skills, along with the ability to clearly document and present design concepts to all project stakeholders and industry peers. This individual must be a team player focused on collaboration with the ability to maintain a consistently positive attitude.

It is critical that the Senior Interior Designer be able to leverage technology to present and document interior concepts and ideas. This individual must have the ability to produce presentation materials and associated documentation is an important component of this position.

Reports to: Principal/Associate Principal/Director of Interior Design Responsibilities include:

Design
  • Lead visioning, programming, design conceptualization, development, and integration of strategic design solutions for projects.
  • Conceptualizes and develops interior design from both a functional and aesthetic perspective in concert with a client’s requirements, budget, and program.
  • Programming and generation of programming documents.
  • Develops space planning, block planning, and adjacency diagrams.
  • Oversight of design details including, but not limited to, millwork design, ceiling, and lighting design.
  • Completes Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment scope tasks from design and selection through bid.
  • Creation of Finish and material palettes.
  • Research and evaluate materials.
  • Research, evaluate and select interior systems.
  • Develops the interiors through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats to express the design intent.
  • Ensures design complies with building codes and ADA guidelines.
  • Understands and coordinates project systems to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
Documentation
  • BIM Construction Documentation
  • CSI Master Specification Documentation
  • Oversee design work of others to ensure integrated and cohesive design, supervise preparation of drawings, and ensure guidelines, quality control, standards and details are met.
Construction
  • Assist in construction administration including responding to RFI s, preparing sketches and addendums, and visiting the construction site to gather information and/or prepare a punch list.
Project Management
  • Lead all stages of the design process including visioning, programming, concept design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
  • Coordination and collaboration with project team (includes full team architects and engineers).
  • Lead Client Presentations and correspondence and communication.
  • Estimate the time required to complete the work.
  • Management of projects through developing project scope, schedules, job production, quality, and fee management.
  • Work with project team, consultants, product reps, and fabricators to meet overall project objectives.
  • Manage client relationships.
  • Provide consistent and timely communication of project information with clients and the project team.
  • Develops interior design in accordance with cost parameters and ensures interior design intent is maintained through documentation and construction.
  • Mentor and coach staff
  • Inspire creativity, critical thought, and design excellence.
  • Develop and maintain a positive leadership image and environment which promotes staff morale and teamwork.
Professional Acumen
  • Provides thought leadership, creative visioning, client engagement, and design thinking.
  • Contribute to and participate in office activities, initiatives and learning programs.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing, productive client relationships.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the profession and the firm by participating in a professional organization or other professional activities outside of the office.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree of Interior Design or Interior Architecture.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience
  • NCIDQ Certification
  • Extensive Experience in software – Revit, Lumion, Enscape, Photoshop, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
  • Advanced English, both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivation, excellent communication skills, and a great team-player attitude.
  • Understanding of people management or work experience in large company.
  • Strong knowledge of the design process from FF&E selection to construction document preparation
  • Graphics and visualization skills to effectively communicate design ideas.
  • Strong leadership, organization, communication, and relationship management skills
  • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • To produce design at a level that would be perceived externally as excellent.
  • Communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.
  • Participate in a project team setting.
  • Lead one or more teams on projects through the development of interior design.
  • Check work of others for accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage team to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Interpret sketches, drawings, codes, project program and other similar material.
  • Present abstract ideas to the client.
  • Apply accessibility codes, applicable building codes, and life-safety codes to a wide variety of project scopesand complexity.
  • Proficient understanding of the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with other disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, telecom, and fire protection.
  • Demonstrated success as a designer on a range of commercial interiors project types including but not limited to, workplace, healthcare, collaborative, and learning environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in space planning, building codes, and ADA requirements.
  • Working knowledge of contract interiors FF&E market including manufacturers and dealers, and experience documenting FF&E specifications
  • Experience in maintaining fiscal accountability of projects.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills fostering a positive work environment.
  • Self-starter, leader, ability to manage and mentor multiple project teams on complex projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in Deltek VantagePoint
  • WELL AP or LEED AP Certification
  • Experience with Furniture Procurement
