Job summary

Elements in Denver and Fort Collins seeks a Senior Designer for Slate studio to lead thoughtful, functional, and visually compelling commercial furniture environments that align with client goals, manufacturer standards, and user experience.

This is a strategic, client-facing role partnering with clients, sales, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality outcomes that meet budget and timeline expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent practical experience; certifications are a plus.
• 7+ years of professional design experience, ideally within commercial interiors, contract furniture, or construction-related projects.
• Demonstrated experience specifying commercial furniture systems, preferably with Steelcase or other industry-leading manufacturers.
• Strong proficiency with CET Designer (Configura), AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office to support project coordination.
• Track record of producing high-quality design deliverables, including space plans, 3D renderings, specifications, and installation documentation.

Responsibilities

• Partner with clients, account executives, and internal teams to understand project goals, spatial requirements, and brand standards.
• Develop space plans using CET Designer, AutoCAD, and manufacturer planning tools.
• Lead detailed furniture specification, including systems, finishes, and materials, within budgets and standards.
• Source materials and products that support project goals and user experience.
• Prepare and maintain design documentation: drawings, specifications, renderings, installation packages.
• Coordinate with vendors and teams to gather samples and technical information, ensure feasibility and codes compliance.
• Present design concepts to clients and stakeholders, incorporate feedback.
• Mentor junior designers and uphold high design quality and collaboration.
• Stay current on products, materials, and industry trends.

About the role:

As a Senior Designer in our Slate studio, you will lead the development of thoughtful, functional, and visually compelling commercial furniture environments that align with client goals, manufacturer standards, and user experience. This is a strategic, client-facing role where you will guide projects from concept through completion, partnering closely with clients, sales, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality outcomes that meet budget and timeline expectations. You will combine creative direction with technical expertise, developing space plans and leading detailed furniture specification while producing accurate installation documentation across a variety of project types. As a senior member of the design team, you will also mentor junior designers and help uphold a high standard of design quality, specification accuracy, and collaboration across projects.

This position is open in both our Denver and Fort Collins office locations.

What you’ll do:

• Partner with clients, account executives, and internal teams to understand project goals, spatial requirements, and brand standards.
• Develop creative and efficient space plans using CET Designer (Configura), AutoCAD, and manufacturer planning tools.
• Lead detailed furniture specification, including systems, ancillary products, finishes, and materials, ensuring alignment with design intent, budgets, and manufacturer standards.
• Select and source materials, finishes, furnishings, and product solutions that support project goals and user experience.
• Prepare and maintain accurate design documentation, including drawings, specifications, renderings, and installation packages.
• Coordinate with vendors, manufacturers, architects, contractors, and internal teams to gather samples, pricing, technical information, and ensure design feasibility and compliance with codes, ADA, and ergonomic standards.
• Present design concepts and solutions to clients and stakeholders, incorporating feedback to refine project outcomes.
• Mentor junior designers by providing guidance, feedback, and professional development support.
• Stay current on products, materials, and industry trends to strengthen design solutions and studio capabilities.

Who you are:

• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; certifications are a plus.
• 7+ years of professional design experience, ideally within commercial interiors, contract furniture, or construction-related projects.
• Demonstrated experience specifying commercial furniture systems, preferably with Steelcase or other industry-leading manufacturers.
• Strong proficiency with design and visualization software, including CET Designer (Configura), AutoCAD, and SketchUp, along with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint, to support project coordination.
• A track record of producing high-quality design deliverables, including space plans, 3D renderings, specifications, and installation documentation, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Deep knowledge of furniture systems, interior design principles, materials, finishes, and emerging industry trends, with the creativity and design-thinking skills to solve complex challenges.
• Natural leadership and mentorship abilities, with experience providing guidance and professional development to junior designers while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple complex projects, timelines, and budgets with organization, adaptability, and precision.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly and confidently convey design ideas to clients, stakeholders, and internal teams.

While we support a flexible work environment, this role is based in either Denver, CO or Fort Collins, CO and requires regular in-office presence. Ideal candidates will enjoy and thrive in a primarily in-person, collaborative team environment. In-office presence is required within the first 90 days of employment.

Regular local travel throughout Colorado is expected for client meetings and project support, along with occasional domestic travel for manufacturer events, customer meetings, and industry conferences.

Compensation:

$65,000 - $85,000 per year
