Job summary

Figure, an AI robotics company headquartered in San Jose, CA, is seeking a hands-on Connector & Interconnect Design Engineer to own the full lifecycle of custom electrical interfaces. You will drive 3D CAD modeling, 2D drawings, and manufacturing packages for high-precision connectors and housings while collaborating with EE, mechanical, and supplier teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in connector design, electromechanical packaging, or interconnect engineering.
• Strong 3D CAD proficiency and experience with CATIA, SolidWorks, or Creo.
• Ability to create manufacturing-ready 2D drawings with GD&T.
• Experience designing housings, contacts, and electromechanical assemblies.
• Experience coordinating with suppliers and contract manufacturers during development.

Responsibilities

• Own 3D CAD modeling and 2D detailed drawings for custom connectors and interfaces.
• Design housings, contacts, strain reliefs, and sealing features with DFM focus.
• Create manufacturing packages: GD&T drawings, tolerancing, material callouts, assembly instructions.
• Perform connector power calculations: current rating, derating, temperature rise, mating force.
• Collaborate with EE to meet signal integrity and power delivery requirements.
• Develop and execute validation test plans: cycling, vibration, thermal, environmental exposure.
• Define acceptance criteria, document results, and drive corrective actions.
• Manage connector programs end-to-end: RFQ, supplier selection, tooling milestones, qualification.
• Support prototype builds, first article inspections, and bench troubleshooting.
• Maintain engineering docs, BOMs, and revision history in PLM.
