Job summary

The Department of Labor & Regulation - Division of Insurance in Pierre, SD is seeking a Financial Specialist to analyze the financial status of insurance companies operating in South Dakota. This exempt position offers a team-focused work environment and the opportunity to contribute to public protection.

You will communicate with companies and Division staff to assess potential financial and non-financial risks, conduct research, and apply NAIC statutory accounting practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, economics, accounting, statistics or similar preferred.
• Individuals with financial examination experience or proven track record in financial/credit analysis encouraged to apply.
• Licenses or certifications not required, but PIR, AFE, CPA, CPCU, AIAF or similar designations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze the financial status of insurance companies operating in South Dakota.
• Communicate with companies and Division staff to determine potential financial and non-financial risks.
• Research and apply applicable laws, regulations, procedures and practices and the NAIC statutory accounting practices.
• Recommend decisions based on reasonable and timely analysis.
