About Branch

Branch is on a mission to make insurance more accessible, so more people can be covered. We innovate using data, tech, and automation to simplify insurance from start to finish—we eliminated inaccurate quotes in favor of real prices, created a better way to bundle, and cut unnecessary costs in the traditional insurance process. Then we pass those savings along to our members. Basically, we’re doing insurance the way it was meant to be.

But we didn’t just create the insurance we’ve always wanted, we also created the company we’ve always wanted to work for. As we redefine insurance, we also want to redefine what it means to work in insurance. Find out for yourself.

Branch has a preference for candidates in Ohio, but is open to candidates located in AZ, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, MD, MI, MO, NV, NC, OH, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, and WI. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

Branch is remote first, with most Branchers choosing to work from home. Our headquarters are located in Columbus, Ohio, where we come together from time to time to build relationships and connect with each other in real life. We also have office space in Columbia and Concordia, Missouri as well as Forreston, Illinois. Once a year, the entire company gathers for “BranchFest”, a highlight of the year for many Branchers.

About the role

At Branch, we build insurance products that are clear to the people who buy them. As a Senior Insurance Contract & QA Analyst, you'll own the development and maintenance of the forms and endorsements behind our personal lines products, and you'll test what we ship to confirm it matches what we filed.

Reporting to the Director of Underwriting, Contract & QA, you'll join a small contract, compliance and QA team inside the insurance product organization. You'll draft and maintain contracts and endorsements across multiple states, carry filings and regulatory responses, and run the quality assurance that confirms our systems produce what the departments of insurance approved, in output and in formatting.

Branch is expanding into new states and new lines, so the contract work grows with the footprint. Alongside it, a significant year of pricing change means rating tables move in every state, and testing those changes is a large part of the year ahead. You'll also continue the automation work already underway in quality assurance, in partnership with our analytics team.

This role is a good fit for someone who reads a contract closely enough to see exactly what a coverage change does, who enjoys finding the gap between what was filed and what shipped, and who wants to own forms end to end rather than one step in someone else's process.

Key Responsibilities

Contract and Compliance

Design, develop and maintain personal lines contracts, forms and endorsements across multiple states and lines of business

Complete filings and respond to regulatory inquiries on the contract

Serve as a resident expert on the contract terms for our product lines

Carry ongoing compliance review as products, systems and regulations change

Review competitor offerings and market needs, and bring that read into forms and endorsement development

Quality Assurance

Test product output to confirm that what was filed with departments of insurance is what the system actually produces, in function and in formatting

Test rating and pricing changes as rating tables are updated state by state

Build and maintain test plans, test cases and defect tracking for contract, rating and system changes

Continue the automation of quality assurance work in partnership with the analytics team

Across Both

Partner with Product Management, Underwriting, Pricing, Actuarial, Claims and Technology on changes that cross the contract, the rating and the system

Write documentation for contract updates and test cases that the people downstream can actually follow

Manage multiple states and workstreams in parallel, through real peaks and valleys in the calendar

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

Personal lines P&C insurance experience. Typically 5+ years, in insurance contract and forms development, or in claims where you worked policy language directly. One of those two lanes is essential.

Policy language interpretation. You can read two contracts and say precisely how the coverage differs.

Contract drafting, revision and compliance review in an insurance context, rather than commercial or vendor contracting.

State regulatory environments. Experience preparing filings or responding to regulatory inquiries.

Quality assurance methodology. Test planning, test case development and defect tracking, including UAT or regression testing on insurance systems.

Reading system output for discrepancies. Policy issuance and rating results, checked against what was filed.

Cross-functional partnership. Working with Product, Underwriting, Actuarial, Claims and Technology to get a change all the way out.

Attention to detail that holds under pace. The core of this work is catching the one inconsistency that everything else passed over.

Automation and continuous improvement instinct. A record of making repetitive work smaller.

Written communication. Reporting findings, issues and suggested improvements clearly enough that someone acts on them.

Education. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

An alternate route in. Exceptional quality assurance and continuous improvement experience in an insurance systems environment can stand in for direct contract or claims background.
