Job summary

PegasusTSI is seeking a Senior Instrument & Controls Engineer in Tampa, FL. The role requires leading instrument and control design for regulatory projects, coordinating with clients and multi-disciplinary teams, and ensuring schedule and budget compliance.

The position favors extensive PLC/DCS experience, PE licensure, and field work, with travel as needed. Hybrid onsite work in a dynamic, Florida-based environment.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in instrumentation and control engineering (ABET accredited).
  • 10–15 years of engineering design experience as a project lead.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration required.
  • Field work experience.
  • Experience with PLC and DCS systems (Allen-Bradley, DeltaV, Yokogawa, Honeywell).
  • Knowledge of ISA, NFPA, API, ASME, OSHA codes.
  • Subcontract development for instruments and control systems installation.
  • Proficient with MS Office and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains knowledge of digital and analog control systems for regulatory and supervisory process control design.
  • Prepares workhour estimates, installed cost estimates, budgeting, scheduling and reporting for instrument and control design progress.
  • Coordinates with client on instrument specs and control philosophy for P&ID diagrams and wiring of DCS/ PLC systems.
  • Supervises engineering and design team members and plans scheduling.
  • Provides technical guidance and quality checks as a discipline leader.
  • Liaises with plant and construction teams on domestic and international projects.
  • Coordinates with local authorities for permits and compliance.

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Instrument & Controls Engineer.

The Senior Instrument & Controls Engineer is accountable for the adequacy of calculations, engineering drawings, and specifications for a project and compliance with schedule and budget.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains solid knowledge of digital and analog control systems for regulatory and supervisory process control design, development of control philosophy, and coordination of work between other disciplines and instrumentation departments
  • Prepares workhour (engineering) estimates, installed cost estimates, budgeting, scheduling, controlling and reporting instrument and control design progress to ensure efficient and timely execution of the project
  • Coordinates with Client on instrument specifications and control philosophy issues related to the development of P&ID diagrams, control systems design, and wiring of distributed control systems and programmable controllers
  • Supervises engineering and design team members assigned to projects, manpower-planning, and scheduling of engineering activities
  • Provides technical guidance and quality check on design team's output, as a working engineering and design discipline leader
  • Liaises with plant and construction team members for on-going domestic and international projects
  • Coordinates with local authorities for the compliance with local rules/regulations and permit approvals
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering related to Instrumentation and Control Systems (ABET accredited)
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in engineering design as a project lead engineer
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration required
  • Field work experience
  • Extensive background in the design of instrumentation and control systems for chemical, refining, petrochemical and specialty chemical plants, including preparing instrument specs, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, etc.
  • Solid background in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) systems such as Allen Bradley, Emerson-Delta V, Yokogawa, Honeywell, etc., including Control systems design, preparing architectural network diagrams, and control equipment specifications
  • Experience with detailed Design, Public Improvement Districts (PID) development, instrumentation and control equipment specifications, datasheets
  • Knowledge of ISA, NFPA, API, ASME, OSHA and other relevant industry codes and standards with respect to design requirements
  • Subcontract development for instruments and control systems installation experience, including Integration scopes of work
  • Proficient with technical software applications, including MS Office and Google Workspace
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Willingness to travel to job sites, as needed
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship

This position is based in Tampa, Florida. While the company offers a hybrid work schedule, the role also requires the individual to be onsite in the office.
