Position Summary

Senior‑level instructional designer responsible for managing and advancing NRECA’s director education portfolio with a focus on strengthening board governance excellence. Works with electric cooperative governance knowledge and instructional design expertise to deliver high‑impact learning experiences for NRECA’s 7,000‑member board community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research, design, and develop innovative courses that enhance the board of directors education portfolio using competency‑based learning solutions.
  • Lead the design of a cohesive, high‑impact learning portfolio blending in‑person and digital experiences for cooperative boards of directors.
  • Create dynamic, learner‑centered instructional materials such as presentations, participant guides, job aids, video tutorials, and interactive simulations.
  • Incorporate technology‑driven instructional strategies for both online and in‑person delivery and improve course development and retention.
  • Recruit, develop, and support a network of 20+ contracted instructors, providing coaching, feedback, and ensuring high‑caliber learning experiences.
  • Define curriculum purpose, understand audience needs, craft compelling value propositions, and implement tactics to engage learners before, during, and beyond courses.
  • Facilitate subject‑matter expert ideation sessions and partner with governance experts to keep content relevant and impactful.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through participant feedback and performance insights; apply findings to continuously refine curriculum and outcomes.
  • Consult the budget for assigned programs to meet net revenue margins.
  • Build relationships with NRECA departments, member cooperative employees, and network partners to stay current on industry trends.
  • Collaborate with conference program managers to generate content ideas for director education events such as Director’s Conference and NRECA’s Summer and Winter Schools.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, communications, business, accounting, or a related utility industry degree.
  • Seven or more years of experience designing, developing content for in‑person and online programs and conferences.
  • Experience with competency frameworks and using them to develop curriculum and programs.
  • Proficiency with Articulate360, InDesign, PowerPoint, AdobePremiere, and related development tools.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and online collaboration tools.
  • Experience in a member‑based organization’s educational department and managing externally contracted projects.
  • ATD, ASAE certification or equivalent professional certification a plus.
  • Knowledge of governance education, adult learning principles, instructional frameworks, and instructional design theory and best practices.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills; ability to manage multiple programs without direct supervisory authority.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and artificial intelligence tools.
  • Ability to travel as required.
Essential Physical Requirements

Requires close visual acuity for activities such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, and extensive reading at a computer terminal. Must be able to exert up to 20pounds of force occasionally and up to 10pounds of force frequently. Light work rating.

Salary

$123,000–$152,000 annual salary; final compensation determined by qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
