Job summary

The City of New York’s Department of Investigation seeks an experienced Inspector General for Squad 5 to lead investigations into fraud, corruption, waste, and misconduct involving City entities and funded programs. You will oversee a multidisciplinary team of investigators, attorneys, auditors, and analysts, ensuring integrity and accountability across complex cases.

You will guide high‑impact investigations, coordinate with state and federal partners, mentor staff, and drive reform proposals

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and 4 years of full‑time experience in investigation, auditing, law enforcement, or related fields, with at least 18 months in a supervisory role.
  • Education/experience equivalent to the above with Commissioner approval and 18+ months of supervisory/management experience.
  • 10+ years of investigative, legal, or law enforcement experience preferred; leadership in complex investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead confidential investigations of fraud, corruption, misconduct, and waste involving City employees, vendors, and public funds.
  • Direct planning and execution of investigative operations, including subpoenas, interviews, and document reviews.
  • Oversee drafting of investigative reports and recommendations for policy reforms to City agencies.
  • Represent the DOI and Commissioner in meetings with law enforcement, prosecutors, and government officials.
