Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer specializing in network observability, packet-broker platforms, and data visibility. This role will design, engineer, and operate the infrastructure used to collect network traffic from physical and virtual observation points and reliably deliver that data to internal security, operations, performance, and application‑monitoring customers. The ideal candidate will have senior‑level experience with SPAN, TAP, aggregation, filtering, replication, deduplication, load balancing, and tool delivery in large packet‑broker environments using technologies such as Arista DMF and Gigamon. A strong traditional networking foundation is essential, but this is not a traditional routing and switching role. Success requires understanding how to turn raw network traffic into a reliable, scalable, and supportable observability service.

For this opportunity: Truist will not sponsor an applicant for work visa status or employment authorization, nor will we offer any immigration‑related support for this position (including, but not limited to H‑1B, F‑1 OPT, F‑1 STEM OPT, F‑1 CPT, J‑1, TN‑1 or TN‑2, E‑3, O‑1, or future sponsorship for U.S. lawful permanent residence status.)

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Works to achieve operational targets with major impact on the infrastructure engineering department or job area results and contributes to the development of goals for area of responsibility.
  • Designs, builds, manages, and implements enterprise infrastructure technology platforms and systems across cloud, network, database, storage, platform, computing, or middleware domains.
  • Develops and applies automation, monitoring, and optimization techniques to ensure high availability and performance of infrastructure.
  • Manages large infrastructure projects and programs aligned with organizational strategy and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with cross‑functional teams and external partners to integrate new technologies and continuously improve infrastructure standards and processes.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex technical issues impacting infrastructure performance and reliability.
  • Ensures compliance with technology strategies, standards, and governance to mitigate risks and ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Reviews infrastructure designs, configurations, and procedures to support operational consistency and knowledge sharing.
  • Provides strong technical guidance, training, and direction to infrastructure teams and lower‑level technical professionals.
  • Demonstrates innovative influence with stakeholders in supporting business objectives and technical strategic objectives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies including cloud, network, database, storage, platform, computing, and middleware.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in network observability, packet broker engineering, network visibility, network monitoring, or a related infrastructure engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience designing, deploying, operating, and troubleshooting large‑scale packet broker and network visibility environments, including Gigamon, Arista DANZ Monitoring Fabric (DMF), or comparable technologies.
  • Deep expertise in traffic acquisition and delivery architectures utilizing TAPs, SPAN/RSPAN/ERSPAN, packet aggregation, filtering, deduplication, load balancing, masking, slicing, encapsulation, and traffic distribution to downstream tools and consumers.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, data center architectures, and traffic flows, including Ethernet, VLANs, VXLAN, TCP/IP, routing, switching, overlays, load balancers, firewalls, and east‑west/north‑south traffic patterns.
  • Experience designing and managing packet delivery services that support multiple consumers across security, observability, application performance monitoring, network detection and response, packet capture, and analytics platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and troubleshoot packet visibility challenges, including packet loss, asymmetric routing, traffic duplication, oversubscription, saturated monitoring links, filtering errors, tool‑ingestion limitations, and end‑to‑end visibility gaps.
  • Experience evaluating network topologies, application architectures, segmentation models, and business requirements to determine optimal observation points and traffic acquisition strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of packet analysis and troubleshooting methodologies using tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience integrating packet broker platforms with enterprise tools, operational processes, and monitoring consumers while maintaining ownership, traceability, lifecycle management, and service expectations.
  • Familiarity with automation and Infrastructure‑as‑Code concepts, including GitLab CI/CD, Ansible Automation Platform, APIs, scripting, Terraform, and repeatable deployment methodologies used to automate operational workflows and platform management.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages with the ability to automate processes, build integrations, consume APIs, and develop operational tooling.
  • Experience developing platform standards, onboarding processes, operational runbooks, capacity management practices, lifecycle strategies, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure within highly regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or government, where compliance, security controls, risk management, and audit requirements influence architecture and operational decisions.
  • Ability to partner effectively with security, application, infrastructure, operations, architecture, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable observability and visibility solutions.
  • Strong communication and consulting skills, with the ability to explain complex traffic flows, visibility limitations, and architectural decisions to both executive and technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, establish priorities, and deliver results with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
  • Comfortable operating in large enterprise environments that balance legacy infrastructure, modernization programs, cloud adoption, and emerging technologies.
