Job summary

Mission Bridge Partners is seeking Senior IaC Engineers to design, develop, test, document, and maintain reusable Terraform modules across cloud, hybrid, and on‑prem environments.

The role emphasizes building standardized module libraries, managing full module lifecycles, and enabling multiple engineering teams to deploy infrastructure consistently and securely with rigorous versioning and documentation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud/Infrastructure Engineering, or related field.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience developing reusable Terraform modules for consumption by multiple engineering teams.
• Experience managing Terraform modules through a structured development and release lifecycle.
• Experience with module versioning, release management, and breaking-change handling.
• Experience distributing modules via Terraform registries or Git-based release processes.
• Experience implementing automated Terraform testing, security scanning, or CI/CD quality gates.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain reusable Terraform modules used by multiple teams.
• Build standardized IaC module libraries and catalogs for consistent, secure deployments.
• Own full Terraform module lifecycle including architecture, testing, release, versioning, maintenance, and deprecation.
• Define module interfaces with clear variables, outputs, validation, naming, and dependencies.
• Implement semantic versioning, pinned versions, and backward compatibility.
• Publish modules through registries, repositories, or Git-based releases.
• Develop automated module testing and validation with Terratest, Sentinel, OPA, Checkov, tfsec, etc.
• Integrate Terraform modules into CI/CD with quality, security, and policy checks.
• Develop IaC standards for consistency, security, auditability, and repeatability.
• Manage Terraform state, drift detection, and remediation.
• Collaborate with downstream teams to collect requirements and feedback for releases.
• Participate in code reviews and promote reusable, production-ready IaC.
• Develop automation for public cloud, hybrid, and on-prem environments.
• Incorporate federal security/compliance requirements (NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP, RMF, Zero Trust, CIS, STIGs).

Position Overview

Mission Bridge Partners is supporting a federal technology program seeking experienced Senior Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Engineers to design, develop, test, document, and maintain reusable infrastructure automation modules across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments.

This is not a traditional DevOps or Terraform infrastructure provisioning role. The primary focus is developing reusable Terraform modules as products for other engineering teams to consume.

The ideal candidate has experience building and maintaining shared Terraform module libraries or catalogs used across multiple engineering teams, with disciplined practices around versioning, documentation, automated testing, release management, security, and backward compatibility.

Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate not only that they have used Terraform, but that they have built standardized, reusable IaC components that other teams independently consumed and relied upon.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain reusable Terraform modules consumed by multiple engineering, application, platform, or infrastructure teams.
• Build standardized IaC module libraries and catalogs that enable engineering teams to deploy infrastructure consistently and securely.
• Own the full Terraform module lifecycle, including architecture, development, testing, documentation, release, versioning, maintenance, and deprecation.
• Establish clear module interfaces, including variables, outputs, input validation, naming conventions, dependencies, and usage documentation.
• Implement formal versioning and release practices, including semantic versioning, pinned versions, backward compatibility, and management of breaking changes.
• Publish and distribute Terraform modules through Terraform registries, artifact repositories, Git repositories/tags, or comparable enterprise distribution mechanisms.
• Develop automated module testing and validation processes using tools and techniques such as Terratest, Sentinel, OPA, Checkov, tfsec, or comparable technologies.
• Integrate Terraform modules into CI/CD pipelines with automated quality, security, compliance, and policy checks beyond basic terraform validate.
• Develop and enforce Infrastructure as Code standards that improve consistency, security, auditability, and repeatability across engineering teams.
• Implement and support Terraform state-management strategies, configuration-drift detection, and remediation processes.
• Partner with downstream engineering teams to understand infrastructure requirements, support module adoption, troubleshoot implementation issues, and incorporate feedback into future releases.
• Participate in code reviews and establish development practices that promote reusable, maintainable, production-quality IaC.
• Develop infrastructure automation supporting public cloud, hybrid-cloud, and on-premises environments.
• Incorporate applicable federal security and compliance requirements into infrastructure automation, including NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP, RMF, Zero Trust, CIS benchmarks, and/or DISA STIGs.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, implementation guidance, release notes, architecture documentation, and module usage examples.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
• Demonstrated experience developing reusable Terraform modules for consumption by engineering teams outside of the candidate's immediate team.
• Experience managing Terraform modules through a structured development and release lifecycle.
• Experience with module versioning, release management, documentation, and breaking-change management.
• Experience distributing reusable modules through a Terraform registry, artifact repository, Git-based release process, or similar mechanism.
• Experience implementing automated Terraform testing, security scanning, policy validation, or CI/CD quality gates.
• Experience with Git-based development workflows, pull requests, peer/code reviews, branching, and version control.
• Hands‑on experience with one or more major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI.
• Experience working with CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure architecture, security, networking, identity/access management, and cloud infrastructure concepts.
• Ability to develop clear technical documentation that allows other engineering teams to independently consume and implement IaC modules.
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Certifications

Candidates should possess relevant cloud, Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, virtualization, or infrastructure certifications.

Certifications do not necessarily need to be currently active. Lapsed certifications are acceptable if the candidate is willing to renew them before starting, and candidates with an actively scheduled certification exam may also be considered.

• Experience with semantic versioning and managing dependencies and breaking changes across multiple module consumers.
• Experience with automated Terraform/module testing using Terratest or comparable frameworks.
• Experience implementing policy-as-code using Sentinel, OPA, or comparable technologies.
• Experience with IaC security and compliance tools such as Checkov, tfsec, or similar technologies.

Experience with virtualization and traditional/on-premises infrastructure is highly valued.

Candidates who began their careers supporting data centers, systems, virtualization, or on-premises infrastructure and subsequently moved into cloud and Infrastructure as Code are strongly encouraged to apply.
