Job summary

FUJIFILM Sonosite is seeking a Senior Industrial Designer to envision, define, and design the future of visual medicine. You will lead design projects across disciplines, delivering innovative products for medical professionals in a fast-paced environment.

You will mentor designers, define design strategies, and drive concept-to-production from ideation through prototyping and testing, balancing cost, manufacturability, and user needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in industrial design.
• 6–8+ years of industrial design experience leading design projects and delivering successful products.
• Robust portfolio showing concepts through production.
• Experience collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and other stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring junior designers and driving the design process.
• Deep understanding of form, function, usability, ergonomics, and aesthetics.
• Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes for producibility.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Rhino, Autodesk Alias, CATIA) and prototyping.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

• Concept Development: Lead the creation and development of innovative product concepts and design solutions that meet user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility.
• Design Strategy and Vision: Define and communicate design vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with company goals and market trends.
• User-Centered Design: Conduct user research, gather insights, and apply design principles to create ergonomic, functional, and desirable products.
• Prototyping and Testing: Oversee the development of prototypes and mockups that support usability testing, and iterate designs based on feedback to refine product functionality and experience.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with human factors, engineering, product management, manufacturing, and other stakeholders to ensure innovative and successful product launches.
• Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed design specifications, CAD files, renderings, presentations, and documentation necessary for design communication and engineering transfer.
• Mentorship and Leadership: Mentor junior designers and provide guidance on design best practices, tools, and processes to build a strong design team.
• Materials and Manufacturing Expertise: Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, balancing cost, durability, sustainability, and aesthetics.
• Project Management: Establish and manage design timelines, resources, and deliverables, ensuring projects are completed on time, meet user needs, business needs and quality standards.

Knowledge And Experience

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in industrial design
• Professional Work Experience: 6-8+ years of industrial design experience, with a track record of leading design projects and delivering successful products.
• Portfolio of Completed Projects: A robust portfolio showcasing a range of product designs from concept through to production.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven experience working effectively with engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and other stakeholders in a product development environment.
• Project Leadership: Experience managing or leading design projects, mentoring junior designers, and driving the design process from start to finish.
• Problem-Solving and Innovation: Demonstrated ability to creatively solve complex design challenges and innovate within constraints such as budget, materials, and regulatory requirements.
• Stakeholder Interaction: Experience presenting designs and concepts to stakeholders, or management and incorporating feedback professionally.
• Design Principles and Methodologies: Deep understanding of industrial design fundamentals, including form, function, usability, ergonomics, and aesthetics.
• Materials and Manufacturing Processes: Extensive knowledge of materials (plastics, metals, composites, etc.) and manufacturing techniques (injection molding, CNC machining, 3D printing, etc.) to design for producibility and cost-effectiveness.
• Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Tools: Proficiency with 3D modeling and drafting software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, Autodesk Alias, CATIA, or similar.
• Prototyping Techniques: Familiarity with rapid prototyping, model making, and various physical and digital prototyping methods.
• Product Development Lifecycle: Understanding of the full product development process from ideation to production, including collaboration with engineering, marketing, and manufacturing teams.
• Visual Communication: Strong skills in sketching, rendering, and creating visual presentations to communicate design concepts effectively.

Salary And Benefits

• $120,000/yr. - $145,000/yr. depending on experience + variable target bonus (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).
