Job summary

AbbVie in North Chicago, IL seeks a Senior IAM Directory Services Engineer to drive enterprise identity strategy and secure access across platforms. You will partner with cross-functional teams to integrate acquisitions, design trusted identity architectures, and oversee migration of users, devices, and applications to AbbVie's standardized environments while balancing risk and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in information security, ideally as a Security Engineer or Engineer.
• Experience with M&A, divestitures, or multi-company collaborations.
• Familiarity with security tools and cloud platforms (self-hosted and cloud).
• Proficient with Cloud Identity Providers (Entra, Okta, PingOne) supporting SAML, OIDC, OAuth 2.0.
• Working knowledge of AWS, GCP, Azure and collaboration tools (M365, GSuite, Slack).
• Proficiency in Active Directory and related security constructs.

• Serve as the liaison between Identity team and stakeholders to design secure identity solutions.
• Provide advisory services to reduce risk and friction in transactions.

• Design and implement identity federation and trust models across domains.
• Drivethe migration of users, devices, and applications to AbbVie's standardized platforms.
• Develop and maintain automation for provisioning/deprovisioning during M&A transitions.
• Maintain documentation and contribute to M&A identity playbooks and standards.

Join AbbVies Information Security & Risk Management (ISRM) teamas a Senior Engineer, IAM Directory Services, where we empower our partners to succeed by delivering the knowledge, tools, and support needed toleveragedata and technology securely and effectively. As part of our Identity & Access Management (IAM) team,you willplay a pivotal role in shaping and executing our enterprise-wide IAM strategy.

Responsibilities

• Partner with business development groups throughout various stages of company relationshipswhetherit isa research-sharing arrangement, full acquisition, or site divestiture.
• Support theinitialintegration of cross-company communication, followed by the migration of users to AbbVie-managed devices, andsubsequentlyassistwith application transitions and the decommissioning of legacy environments
• Serve as the primary liaison between the Identity team and both technical and business stakeholders,operatingat both strategic and operational levels to develop, coordinate, and implement secure identity designs.
• Provide advisory services to reduce risk and technical friction in these transactions. As a full-time employee, you will be a key contributor to AbbVies long-term strategy and culture.
• Leadthe technical onboarding and identity integration of newlyacquiredentities, ensuring seamless access to AbbVie systems and resources
• Designand implementidentity federation and trust models across multiple domains and forests to support secure collaboration
• Drivethe migration of users, devices, and applications from legacy environments to AbbVies standardized platforms
• Developandmaintainautomation scripts and workflows to streamline identity provisioning and deprovisioning during Merger & Acquisition (M&A) transitions
• Maintaindocumentation and contributingto the continuous improvement of M&A identity playbooks and standards
• Serveas a subject matter expert in identity architecture during due diligence and post-merger integration phases

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree with 6 years experience; Masters Degree with 5 years experience; PhD with 0 years experience.
• Respectiveyears of demonstrated experiencein an information security role, ideally as a SecurityEngineeror Engineer
• Direct experience with M&A, divestitures, or multi-company collaborations
• Familiarity with a range of security tools and platforms (self-hosted and cloud)
• Proven experience with Cloud Identity Providers (e.g., Entra, Okta, or PingOne) supporting SAML, OIDC, and OAuth 2.0.
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and collaboration tools (M365, GSuite, Slack)and integrations into Cloud Identity Providers
• Proficiencyin Active Directory and related security constructs (domains, forests, trusts)
• Relevant certifications (e.g., SANS, AWS)
• Demonstrated ability to lead integration strategies and influence peers to achieve desired outcomes.
• In-depth knowledge of identity and access governance policies and standards, including least-privilege, access lifecycle management, and enterprise security policy frameworks.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

Preferred

• 5 yearsin an information security role, ideally as an Identity or SecurityEngineer
• Practical experience in security architecture (e.g., Cloud Security, AppSec, Network Security, Identity) and can speak to solutionsthey havedesigned and implemented.
• Relevant identity-focused certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator, Okta Certified Professional/Consultant, or Ping Identity certifications).
• Familiar with industry standards such as NIST 800 and ISO 27001
