Job summary

The Department of Ecology, part of the State of Washington, is seeking a Hydrogeologist 4 for the Nuclear Waste Program in Richland, WA. The role focuses on groundwater and vadose zone condition assessments to guide cleanup and regulatory decisions at the Hanford Tank Farms.

You will analyze subsurface data, evaluate fate-and-transport modeling, and advise on remediation strategies to protect health and the environment, serving as the technical authority on leak evaluations and regulatory

Qualifications

  • WA Geologist license and Hydrogeologist specialty license required.
  • Nine (9) years of experience and/or education as described below.
  • Experience in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely allied profession.
  • Advanced hydrogeology knowledge and groundwater/surface water evaluation.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation of monitoring data.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and apply statutes.
  • Clear written and oral communication of complex technical concepts.
  • Experience with RCRA/CERCLA regulatory context and groundwater projects.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate SST leaks determinations and regulatory documents.
  • Review groundwater and surface water contamination data and plans.
  • Develop hydrogeologic recommendations for project managers and specialists.
  • Evaluate groundwater well installation and monitoring permits.
  • Review site-wide groundwater reports and CERCLA documents.
  • Collaborate with chemists, engineers, toxicologists, and regulators.
  • Interpret modeling results to inform cleanup and closure planning.
  • Lead regulatory aspects of hydrogeologic investigations.
