Job summary

EMCOR Group is seeking a Senior Estimator to support our preconstruction team for HVAC retrofit projects in California. You will prepare budgets, takeoffs, and proposals, review drawings and codes, and coordinate with account managers and suppliers to deliver accurate estimates.

Responsibilities include quantity takeoffs, risk assessment, and ensuring compliance with Title 24 and local codes, while collaborating across engineering, estimating, and operations to win bids.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of Estimating, Engineering, Construction Management, or Business Management experience.
• 4+ years’ experience with HVAC design and building construction.
• Knowledge of the practical application of mechanical engineering, including redline-designs and RFP/RFQ budgeting.
• Proficient with California mechanical codes and retrofitting knowledge.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Gather information for estimating by talking with managers, end users, engineering, and vendors.
• Interpret field conditions to determine project direction and costs for retrofit projects without drawings.
• Submit proposals, scopes of work, project scheduling, and engineering solutions compliant with regulations.
• Generate sales proposals and Excel spreadsheets that are complete and accurate for the proposed project.
• Perform constructability and code reviews and document risk concerns.
• Understand and apply California Mechanical Code and local municipal codes.
• Compile detailed budget assumptions with qualifications and exclusions for clients.
• Prepare accurate replacement equipment lists, sheet metal, piping, and labor estimates.
• Obtain scopes of work and pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Assist with pricing change orders.
