Job summary

Seatrium is seeking an experienced HVAC design engineer to review specifications, perform calculations, and lead the technical delivery of HVAC systems for shipyard projects. You will ensure drawings and documents meet contractual and Classification Society requirements, coordinating with owners, regulators, and internal teams.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical/marine/HVAC engineering and 8–10 years of relevant design experience, with strong knowledge of HVAC codes and industry

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/marine/HVAC engineering with strong HVAC background.
  • 8–10 years’ experience in engineering design on HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of international design codes and classifications rules.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate project specifications and drawings including HVAC diagrams and P&IDs.
  • Perform HVAC calculations such as cooling/heating load, duct sizing, pressure drop, and noise.
  • Review and approve detailed design drawings and documents to meet technical specs and Classification Society requirements.
  • Provide specialist technical advice and information to internal and external parties.
  • Coordinate with authorities and stakeholders to secure design compliance and approvals.
  • Lead technical discussions with internal teams, subcontractors, and consultants to resolve issues and deliver design solutions.
  • Manage project meetings, address technical clarifications, and oversee HVAC design deliverables including BOMs, D&IDs, P&IDs, and GAs.

Job description

  • Review and validate project specifications and drawings including project requirement specifications, HVAC arrangement drawings, ducting instrumentation diagrams (D&ID), piping instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and other engineering data.
  • Perform and verify HVAC calculations such as cooling/heat load, duct sizing, pressure drop, and noise in compliance with ISO and ASHRAE standards.
  • Review and approve detailed design drawings and documents e.g., piping isometrics, ducting arrangement, equipment foundation, equipment installation, machinery room layout, bill of materials and various mechanical outfitting drawings, and ensure that the deliverables meet contractual technical specification and Classification Society’s requirements.
  • Provide specialist technical advice and information to internal and external parties
  • Coordinate with authorities including owners, statutory bodies, and classification societies to secure design compliance review and approval of proposed HVAC design. Resolve technical issues raised by ship owners and Classification Societies
  • Lead technical discussions with internal teams (yard engineering, basic design, etc.), subcontractors, and consultants to resolve technical issues and deliver design solutions.
  • Manage project meetings, address technical clarification and query, and oversee HVAC design deliverables including BOMs, D&IDs, P&IDs, and GAs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/ marine/ HVAC engineering disciplines, with a strong background in HVAC systems
  • At least 8-10 years’ experience in engineering design on HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system
  • Strong knowledge of international design codes, Classification/Statutory Rules and Regulations
  • Good working experience with HVAC turnkey contractor, HVAC equipment supplier, Shipyard HVAC related department
  • Able to multi-task and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Candidates with work experience in the United States, preferably based in Houston, are strongly encouraged.
  • Proficiency in Navisworks, Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
