Job summary

Southern States LLC seeks a Senior Designer to lead the development of comprehensive mechanical and electrical drawing packages for medium and high voltage substation equipment. You will mentor junior designers and ensure designs meet customer specs, industry standards, and manufacturing capabilities.

You will coordinate with cross-functional teams, review drawings for accuracy, and support proposal activities. The role requires strong problem-solving skills and occasional travel (<10%).

Qualifications

• At least 5 years designing medium/high voltage substation equipment.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or Inventor).
• Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of complete mechanical and electrical drawing packages for substation equipment.
• Ensure designs meet customer specifications and industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, IEC, NEMA).
• Coordinate with staff and external engineers for structural adequacy under wind, seismic, and short-circuit loads.
• Mentor junior designers and review drawings for accuracy and manufacturability.
• Support design reviews and troubleshoot fabrication and field installation challenges.
• Develop and maintain engineering standards, templates, and best practices.
