Job summary

San Diego Humane Society is preparing for a full-time Sergeants role in Humane Law Enforcement. The position involves leading officers, enforcing state and local animal laws, and enforcing humane care standards across San Diego County.

Qualifications

• AA degree or equivalent experience required.
• Two years of animal control, law enforcement or investigations experience required.
• One year of supervisor experience preferred.
• Training in POST Level 2 Reserve Officer or approved police powers program (832 PC) required.
• Must have valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to officers within assigned campus and document cases.
• Assist with selection, training, evaluation, and discipline of Humane Officers.
• Enforce animal-related ordinances across contracting jurisdictions.
• Humane handling and transport of animals using proper equipment.
• Investigate and enforce animal cruelty laws and related activities.
• Take animals under protective custody as evidence in crimes.
• Issue citations and prepare warrants and case files for filing.
• Analyze situations and apply procedures with good judgment.
• Communicate effectively with diverse public.
