Job summary

BD, a global medical technology leader, is hiring a Sr. Human Factors Engineer in the USA (Utah). The role focuses on integrating human factors and user-centered design into the development of medical devices, collaborating across R&D, Regulatory, Quality, and Clinical Affairs to ensure safe, effective products.

You will lead usability studies, create risk analyses, and mentor junior staff while staying current with FDA guidance and IEC 62366 requirements. On-site collaboration is emphasized.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years in human factors engineering.
• Industry Experience: 5+ years in medical device industry (Class II/III).
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of human factors, usability engineering, and user-centered design.
• Research Methods: Proficient in usability testing, contextual inquiry, surveys, and interviews.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Familiar with FDA guidance, IEC 62366, ISO 14971.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Cross-functional: Able to work independently and in fast-paced environments.
• Travel: ~25%.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute human factors activities throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Conduct user research including contextual inquiry and usability testing.
• Develop user profiles, task analyses, use scenarios, and use-related risk analyses.
• Translate research findings into design requirements and recommendations.
• Collaborate with R&D, Marketing, Regulatory, Quality, and Clinical Affairs to integrate human factors considerations.
• Participate in design reviews and provide input on UI, workflow, and usability.
• Contribute to human factors plans, reports, and regulatory documentation (FDA/IEC 62366).
• Mentor junior human factors engineers and promote user-centered design culture.
• Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
