Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Human Factors Engineer to lead usability, accessibility, and human performance validation for FAA-related air traffic control systems. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safety-critical systems meet operational requirements and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities include task analyses, cognitive modeling, and human-in-the-loop simulations, supporting certification and deployment of new technologies in mission-critical environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Cognitive Science, or related field.
• 8 years of relevant experience with a BS/BA; 6 years with MS/MA; 3 years with PhD.
• Experience applying human factors methods to complex safety-critical or operational systems.
• U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead validation of usability, accessibility, and human performance requirements for air traffic control systems and related technologies.
• Ensure compliance with FAA standards through applied human factors engineering principles.
• Conduct task analyses, workload assessments, and cognitive modeling to evaluate system impacts on operators.
• Perform usability testing, field studies, and human-in-the-loop simulations to assess system effectiveness and readiness.
• Provide input into system design, integration planning, and risk management with a focus on human performance optimization.
• Develop and review requirements documents, technical reports, and validation criteria to support certification and deployment of new technologies.
• Collaborate with engineers, system developers, safety specialists, and operational staff to ensure human factors are considered throughout the system lifecycle.
• Recommend design improvements and best practices to reduce human error and enhance safety and efficiency.
