Job summary

Raytheon Technologies' System Safety / Human System Integration (HSI) team seeks a Senior Human Factors Engineer to join onsite in a closed-area program with the LCE team. You will lead HF activities across subsystems, mentor engineers, and coordinate with IPTs to ensure human-centered design and MIL-STD compliance.

Active or ability to obtain a DoD clearance is required; DoD Secret clearance is preferred. This role involves travel up to 20% and onsite work in a secure facility.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires STEM degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Human Factors Engineering, HSI, or Safety Engineering within complex systems.
  • Experience with hardware and software integrated systems in a development environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead MIL-STD-1472-compliant Human Factors Engineering across subsystems or full system segments.
  • Serve as technical authority for Human Factors analyses with traceability across the program.
  • Integrate Human Factors across IPTs to embed performance, safety, and usability in design decisions.
  • Coordinate with customer Human Factors reps to refine and allocate system requirements.
  • Lead HF contributions to system safety activities per MIL-STD-882.
  • Mentor early-career engineers in Human Factors methods and best practices.
  • Present HF status, risks, and design impacts at reviews and engagements.
  • Translate requirements into validated human-centered design inputs.
  • Author and review HFE reports, usability assessments, trade studies, and design recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Software/Firmware, Electrical, Hardware, and Safety teams.
  • Lead usability studies, task analyses, workload assessments, and performance modeling.
  • Travel up to 20%.

Raytheon’s System Safety / Human System Integration (HSI) Department ensures product safety by identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing solutions to protect people, hardware, and the environment. Leveraging rigorous engineering principles, the team integrates safety into every phase of the system lifecycle, enhancing reliability and safeguarding our warfighters.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Senior Human Factors Engineer to join us onsite in a closed area program with the LCE team.

What You Will Do
  • Lead MIL‑STD‑1472–compliant Human Factors Engineering across major subsystems or full system segments.
  • Serve as a technical authority for Human Factors analyses, ensuring compliance and traceability across the program.
  • Integrate Human Factors Engineering across IPTs to embed human performance, safety, and usability in system design decisions.
  • Coordinate with customer Human Factors representatives to refine and allocate system requirements across software, hardware, and test teams.
  • Lead Human Factors contributions to system safety activities, including hazard analyses and mitigations aligned with MIL‑STD‑882.
  • Drive Human Factors planning across all phases of the program lifecycle, from concept development through production and sustainment.
  • Mentor early‑career engineers and cross‑functional teammates in Human Factors methods and best practices.
  • Present Human Factors status, risks, and design impacts at technical reviews and customer engagements.
  • Translate operational and user requirements into validated human‑centered design inputs.
  • Author and review key deliverables such as HFE reports, usability assessments, trade studies, and design recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Software/Firmware, Electrical, Hardware, and Safety engineering teams to ensure full Human‑System Integration.
  • Lead advanced evaluations including usability studies, task analyses, workload assessments, and human performance modeling.
  • Travel up to 20%.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience in Human Factors Engineering, Human Systems Integration, or Safety Engineering in complex systems
  • Experience working with hardware and software integrated systems in a development environment
  • Experience performing or leading requirements decomposition, validation, or systems engineering activities
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Active/Existing DoD clearance
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, or other safety‑critical regulated environments
  • Experience applying MIL-STD-1472 and MIL-STD-882 concepts in program execution
  • Experience leading or contributing to usability testing, task analysis, workload assessment, or human performance modeling
  • Experience with user‑centered design practices, including wireframing, prototyping, or HMI design collaboration
  • Experience with systems engineering lifecycle processes (e.g., requirements flow-down, verification & validation)
  • Experience influencing cross‑functional teams in design tradeoffs involving human performance, safety, and operational effectiveness
  • Experience coordinating across multiple IPTs and stakeholders

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
