Job summary

Advantage Technical is seeking a Senior Human Factors Engineer to join a remote (U.S.) position with a San Diego, CA-based team. You will drive human factors engineering across development, usability studies, and risk analyses to improve patient safety and product usability.

The role requires a strong background in medical device HF, FDA guidance familiarity, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors, HCI, Cognitive Science, BME, or related field.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
  • 5+ years professional experience, including 3+ years in medical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and maintain human factors documentation and usability reports.
  • Conduct formative and summative usability studies.
  • Evaluate use-related risks and propose mitigations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve safety and user experience.
  • Support product design, verification, and validation with HF insights.
  • Mentor junior team members as needed.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to industry standards.

Pay Rate: $77.00/hour

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
  • Master's or Ph.D. preferred
  • 5+ years of professional experience, including 3+ years in Human Factors Engineering within the medical device industry
  • Experience with usability studies, risk analysis, and regulated product development environments
  • Knowledge of FDA Human Factors guidance, IEC 62366, HE75, and related standards preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as needed
Job Duties
  • Develop, review, and maintain Human Factors engineering documentation and usability reports
