Daimler Truck North America is seeking a Sr. HTS Classification Specialist to join the Harmonized Tariff Classification Team. You will support accurate tariff classifications and customs rulings across DTNA’s U.S.

and Canada operations, collaborating with internal teams and DTNA’s global partners to ensure regulatory compliance. The role requires strong research, documentation, and data analysis skills, with a focus on accuracy and continuous learning in a hybrid work setting at the Portland, OR

Qualifications

• BS/BA with 3 years related experience or equivalent education/experience.
• Strong organizational, analytical and research skills are required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Gather product information and maintain docs to support accurate tariff classifications and Customs rulings.
• Provide trade compliance inbox support on a rotational basis.
• Provide tariff numbers and PGA data for clearance of import shipments and related items.
• Assist HTS team with post-entry auditing of tariff classifications.
• Maintain PGA product database and transmit updates to broker.
• Develop and deliver Trade Compliance Training.

Inside the Role

Inside the Role The Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) Sr. HTS Classification Specialist is a responsible member of a Harmonized Tariff Classification Team responsible for all classification-related compliance activities across all DTNA businesses in the United States and Canada including parts for: production of powertrain components, conventional and vocational trucks (Class 6, 7 and 8) for on and off highway applications (Freightliner© and Western Star©), specialized chassis’ and buses, for school and special services (Thomas Built Bus©) step in vans and chassis’ for motor homes, coaches, e-vehicle trucks and buses, autonomous vehicles and Aftermarket service. The Specialist will collaborate with the HTS Classification Manager and team members to determine when a customs ruling request is appropriate and may be assigned the responsibility for providing the necessary research and product data in support of such ruling. This Specialist will collaborate with DTNA’s related party companies globally to optimize the import of goods under the most appropriate import regulations. The HTS Classification Team supports the Import/Export Team, The Trade Programs Team, the C TPAT Manager and our International Trade Compliance Team in Mexico with a variety of Trade Compliance topics involving cross-border topics. The HTS Classification Team seeks to ensure the highest possible level of accuracy as required by U.S. and Canadian Customs regulations. All members of DTNA’s International Trade Compliance Team are expected to take continuing education courses to maintain their trade compliance expertise and, for the HTS Classification Team, knowledge of our products, and are supported in doing so.

What You Drive at DTNA

• Gather product information from multiple sources and maintain documentation necessary to support accurate tariff classifications and Customs ruling request as needed
• Provide trade compliance inbox support for classification requests on a rotational basis
• Provide tariff numbers and certain PGA compliance data for clearance of import shipments. This includes production, aftermarket, factory automation, prototypes, shipping racks, promotional items, samples, chemicals, paints, testing equipment
• Assist HTS team members with post entry auditing of tariff classifications
• Maintain Participating Government Agency (PGA) product database and transmit updates to broker
• Research, prepare and provide PGA-related data and documents such as bearing worksheets to brokers for customs clearance
• Establish and maintain supplier contacts for product information
• Establish and sustain a network of internal contacts as sources of product information
• Provide classification training to suppliers during Trade Programs’ Annual Supplier Training
• Resolve HTS discrepancies with suppliers in support of Trade Programs Team
• Support Import/Export team with Customs clearance process
• Prepare responses to US CBP and CBSA government inquiries (CF28s and CF29s) and analysis and material to support response HTS
• Supporting documentation/ Basis for Classification for Drawback
• Provide analysis on international trade/customs issues
• Support systems implementation/upgrades that may have a direct impact on the Trade Compliance team (GTM)
• Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary process improvements to ensure continued compliance with all laws and regulations
• Identify, analyze, and assist in resolving issues related to customs clearance processes
• Assist with project requests related to tariff classifications / duty estimates and determinations
• Assist in development and communication/delivery of Trade Compliance Training

Knowledge You Should Bring

BS/BA with 3 years related experience; OR an Associate’s degree and 4 years related experience; OR 6 years of related experience in leu of degree. Exceptional Candidates Might Have

• Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) experience
• Familiarity with 19CFR
• Familiarity with Free Trade Agreements, specifically USMCA
• Familiarity with CTPAT
