Job summary

Town of Southington is seeking an experienced HR professional to lead and administer the Town’s Human Resources functions. You will report to the Human Resources Director and may act as the primary backup in the Director’s absence.

The role is exempt, 35 hours per week onsite in Southington, CT, offering a salary of $80,000 to $90,000. Strong benefits, pension, and extensive leave provisions are included.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in HR, business, public administration, or related field.
• 5+ years of professional HR experience, including employee relations and benefits.
• Experience in a municipal or public-sector environment is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of unionized environments and collective bargaining desirable.
• SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP/PHR/SPHR or equivalent certification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional and administrative leadership for HR functions under the HR Director.
• Manage recruitment, onboarding, and benefits programs; advise department heads and supervisors.
• Support employee relations, investigations, and compliance with policies and laws.
• Coordinate with payroll, benefits, and HRIS systems; assist with performance evaluations.
• Serve as backup Acting HR Director as needed and protect confidential information.
