American Packaging Corporation (APC) seeks a Senior HR Manager to lead the HR function at its Story City site. You will partner with COE and site leadership to implement HR programs, ensure policy compliance, and drive people initiatives across exempt and non-exempt staff.

You will contribute to talent management, recruiting, training, and employee relations while supporting overall business objectives and operational efficiency.

LOCATION: Story City, IA

SUMMARY: This position manages the human resources function at APC and serves as a business partner and consultant for the COE, providing HR advice, guidance and support to managers and employees on a broad range of issues and policies. The Senior HR Manager also works collaboratively with the HR team across all locations on innovative solutions and process improvements and partners with this team to ensure cohesion across the sites. The Senior HR Manager is responsible for supporting exempt and non-exempt employees. In addition, this position is responsible for developing, implementing and executing human resource and business strategies and programs. The Manager also establishes work priorities to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of their direct reports at the site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, as well as other duties as assigned.

  • Acting as a liaison to site leadership providing assistance and guidance on human resources issues and initiatives. Coaching and counseling management on policies and procedures.
  • Providing leadership and consulting support to management in support of achieving operations objectives.
  • Ensuring legal compliance by implementing applicable corporate procedures and policies for local, state and federal requirements including, but not limited to, EEO, AAP, HIPAA, and OSHA processes and postings, etc.
  • Advising, counseling, interpreting and administering policies/procedures to ensure consistent application and compliance.
  • Counseling directors/managers in matters involving associate absenteeism, performance, conduct, and working relationships.
  • Attending divisional management meetings to gain knowledge of division structure, mission and goals and to share updates on Human Resources policy, procedures and processes.
  • Assisting with gathering, analyzing and reporting HR metrics and identifying current and future talent needs.
  • Consulting on requests for position reviews, internal reorganizations, compensation and structure changes.
  • Working closely with other members of the HR Team to share best practices, identify areas of improvement and participate in team initiatives and projects.
  • Analyzing management training needs and developing and facilitating training on a variety of topics.
  • Acting as a liaison for recruitment, compensation and benefits.
  • Partnering with the operations team on the investigation and resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Working with managers to identify staffing needs & ensure adequate staffing to meet volume projections including developing and implement staffing strategies & plans to ensure the right people are in the right positions with the necessary skills to do the job.
  • Effectively utilizing the HRIS system to obtain, store, and analyze pertinent workforce data and information and overseeing activities relating to the administration of payroll and employee benefit programs.
  • Working with managers to create, revise and maintain accurate Job Descriptions.
  • Recruiting, screening and recommending candidates for interview and employment.
  • In partnership with the local Operations team, monitoring leave of absences, disability, and FMLA requests.
  • Supporting site leadership with employee relation matters, including corrective actions to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1-2 direct reports.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field from a four-year college or university, and at least eight (8) years related experience and/or training, preferred. Candidate must also have strong knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
