AMERICAN SYSTEMS, a 100% employee-owned federal contractor, seeks a Senior HPC Data Storage Engineer to design, deploy, and optimize high-performance storage for mission-critical scientific computing. You’ll work with HPC, systems, network, and cybersecurity teams to keep data secure, available, and tuned for demanding workloads in a controlled environment.

Qualifications

  • Current Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
  • DoD 8140 IAT II level or higher certification (e.g., Security+ CE)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field
  • 5-7 years of related experience supporting HPC, Linux systems, storage, systems administration, or infrastructure engineering
  • Experience administering, monitoring, or troubleshooting a parallel filesystem such as Lustre, BeeGFS, GPFS
  • Experience supporting production Linux systems and enterprise storage including SAN, NAS, disk arrays, or tape/archive systems
  • Scripting experience with Bash, Python, Perl, or similar
  • Working knowledge of Linux filesystems, storage administration, permissions, quotas, and networking concepts
  • Ability to diagnose system, storage, software, and performance issues
  • Ability to work effectively in a secure controlled-access environment and communicate technical information clearly

  • Provide remote technical support to a counterpart at an alternate site as needed

Overview

AMERICAN SYSTEMS, a 100% employee-owned federal government contractor, is seeking a Senior HPC Data Storage Engineer to manage and optimize high-performance storage supporting mission-critical scientific and technical computing for a specialized customer environment. You’ll collaborate with HPC, systems, network, and cybersecurity professionals to ensure data remains available, secure, and optimized for demanding workloads.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong foundation in Linux, storage, and systems administration who is ready to contribute to a mission-focused HPC environment. Responsibilities

As a Senior HPC Data Storage Engineer with AMERICAN SYSTEMS you will have the opportunity to do the following:

  • Administer and maintain high-performance storage supporting Linux-based HPC systems.
  • Manage storage capacity, quotas, data placement, utilization, and performance.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot parallel filesystems, storage hardware, and related infrastructure.
  • Support SAN, NAS, archive, and other enterprise storage technologies.
  • Analyze storage performance and recommend improvements for HPC users and mission workloads.
  • Develop scripts and automation using Bash, Python, Perl, or similar tools.

Qualifications
  • Current Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to a Special Access Program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field
  • 5-7 years of related experience supporting HPC, Linux systems, storage, systems administration, or infrastructure engineering. (or a Master's degree in related field and 2+ years of job-related experience)
  • DoD 8140 IAT II level or higher certification (e.g., Security+ CE, SecurityX CE, etc.)
  • Experience administering, monitoring, or troubleshooting a parallel filesystem such as Lustre, BeeGFS, GPFS, or a comparable technology.
  • Experience supporting production Linux systems and enterprise storage, including SAN, NAS, disk arrays, or tape/archive systems.
  • Practical scripting experience with Bash, Python, Perl, or a similar language.
  • Working knowledge of Linux filesystems, storage administration, permissions, quotas, and networking concepts.
  • Ability to diagnose system, storage, software, and performance issues.
  • Ability to work effectively in a secure, controlled-access environment and communicate technical information clearly.
Helpful Experience & Qualifications*
  • RHCSA or RHCE certification
  • Experience with Ansible, Git, monitoring tools, or infrastructure automation.
  • Production experience building, configuring, or administering Lustre or another parallel filesystem in an HPC environment.
  • Experience using tools such as perf, strace, tcpdump, vmstat, or iostat for system and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience with SAN infrastructure, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, multipathing, NVMe, or high-speed networking such as InfiniBand.
  • Familiarity with filesystems such as XFS, EXT4, or ZFS.
  • Experience supporting systems in a DoW classified environment.

*Candidates do not need experience with every technology listed above.

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $140,000.00/Yr. - USD $160,000/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
