Job summary

Sunnyside Communities is seeking a Principal Horticulture Specialist to lead landscapes across the 150-acre Sunnyside Arboretum-accredited community. You will plan, develop, and manage therapeutic and ecological landscapes, collaborating with the Buildings & Grounds team to create inviting spaces for residents.

You will serve as a plant-health expert, guide maintenance practices, and support resident engagement through gardening programs and environmental initiatives.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Plant Science, or related field.
• Three to five years of professional horticulture or landscape management experience.
• Experience managing ornamental landscapes, trees, shrubs, seasonal color programs, and plant health care.
• Experience supervising, training, or leading landscape or grounds crews preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement annual horticultural plans with the Assistant Director of Buildings & Grounds.
• Design, install, and maintain seasonal flower displays, perennial gardens, container plantings, and specialty landscape features.
• Monitor trees, shrubs, lawns, and plants and address diseases, pests, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress.
• Promote sustainable landscape practices including water conservation and native plantings.
• Collaborate with resident Green Committee on education and habitat needs.
• Develop and facilitate gardening workshops and educational programs for residents.
• Coordinate with contractors, nurseries, and external partners.
• Maintain horticultural inventory and assist with budgeting and purchasing.
