Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Mine Hoisting and Shaft Specialist Design Professional Engineer to lead a Hoisting and Shaft team for large-scale, iconic projects with international exposure. The role combines technical leadership, design excellence, and client-facing collaboration across multiple disciplines.

Your responsibilities cover technical direction, risk management, and ensuring delivery quality while mentoring engineers and growing the team’s capabilities in a global consulting environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the USA.
• 15-20 years of experience with shaft and hoist construction or maintenance.
• Proven experience leading engineering design work and managing teams.
• Strong knowledge of hoisting systems, shafts, headframes, and industry standards.
• Underground operations understanding and safety emphasis (HSSE).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized expertise for hoisting and shaft system designs.
• Ensure hoisting team delivers within scope, budget, and schedule.
• Formulate and implement recovery plans for underperforming teams.
• Perform quality control on engineering deliverables in hoisting space.
• Collaborate with Discipline Managers to develop cohesive hoisting plant and headframe designs.
• Contribute to risk assessment and hazard identification in design.
• Provide PE sign-off on designs for construction in the USA.
