Shield AI seeks a Human Machine Interface (HMI) Designer to join our team developing next-generation Ground Control Station applications for unmanned aerial systems. This role focuses on real-time, performance-sensitive UIs and requires collaboration with engineers, pilots, and human factors experts to ensure safety-critical usability.

The position emphasizes Figma-driven design, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes, with opportunities to influence telemetry, navigation, and mission-planning

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the fields listed.
• 5+ years of experience designing HMI/UX for aerospace/defense or related apps.
• Expert-level Figma proficiency and design systems experience.
• Strong understanding of human factors, workload, and real-time data visualization.
• Ability to translate complex requirements into usable designs with cross-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end design of HMI for UAV ground control displays.
• Translate requirements into intuitive, safety-critical interfaces.
• Create wireframes, flows, high-fidelity mockups, and prototypes in Figma.
• Collaborate with engineers, pilots, software teams, and human factors experts.
• Apply human factors to optimize usability, workload, and situational awareness.
• Design for real-time telemetry, navigation, sensor fusion, and mission planning visuals.
• Conduct usability testing, simulations, and iterative validation.
• Maintain a design system and component library in Figma.
• Help establish HMI/UX best practices with other designers.
• Ability to obtain a S//SAR clearance is desired.
