Job summary

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is hiring a HS Head Debate Coach for Sumner Academy. The role covers all levels and phases of the debate program, ensuring rules are followed and schedules, equipment, and eligibility are managed in line with district policies.

The coach reports to the Athletic Director or Building Administrator and must hold valid teaching certification, pass a criminal background check, and have CPR/AED certification.

Qualifications

• Certified teacher or qualify for Rule 10 certification through the Kansas State High Schoo Activities Association.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check.
• Current certification in CPR and AED.

Responsibilities

• Enforce KSHSAA rules and supervise student athletes during all participation phases.
• Maintain records for state/district/athletic requirements (forms, rosters, inventory).
• Verify participation eligibility and required tickets and waivers.
• Organize practice and game schedules and coordinate facility usage.
• Supervise practices and locker room security; report injuries.
• Support athletic trainers and adhere to policies of USD 500 and KSHSAA.
• Develop team/individual practice plans to improve performance.
• Oversee coaching staff and provide guidance/mentoring to assistants.
• Communicate expectations of good sportsmanship to staff, parents, and athletes.

Education
